It's My Mum's Birthday today but I'm not allowed to tell you how old she is.

Save to say there is an eight and a seven involved , and as I'm 64..........

I gave her a Blues Harmonica  , it rhymes with Veronica (her name),...

......and I let her off bringing me my bacon sandwich in bed this morning.

(I collected it at the bottom of the stairs !)

She had here first lesson ( "How to hold the Gob-Harp") this morning and has spent the rest of the day making filthy noises on it .....

I went out !....

Calluna: On the 29th my brother was born (it's his birthday today, which prompted me to write this). That gurgling eating & pooing machine is now a clinical psychologist in Salford. Who'd have thought?Heather, you could write a scientific paper on that, showing that all clinical psychologists exhibited gurgling/eating/pooing as a baby -  a 100% correlation. The tabloids would publish it as evidence that any baby who gurgled, ate or pooed would become a clinical psychologist and immediately demand that the government took steps to rectify this worrying situation.

Message to Mrs Bradders - give your son a camping gas stove and frying pan for Christmas so he can make his own bacon breakfast in bed!

Tiz, I think his mother has him under adequate control!

In 1917 this was the first day of the attempt to take the Passchaendael salient. Over 300,000 british and Commonwealth lives lost on a piece of land not much bigger than a small public park.

It's a decade since I came home.

Having left to go to uni when I was 18 and having stayed in a big city for another 20+ years, I finally realised that I belonged back in Barlick after all.

Much had changed, but what was more surprising was what hadn't changed.

In fact, I'd say there have been more radical changes in the last 10 years than in all the time I was away.

20 years since Tim Berners Lee invented the world wide web.  How on earth did we manage to exist without it?

Nice one Heather and here is the very first Website with how it all happened.

I think it has been more benefitial than it's 46 year predecessors claim to fame.

One for today

7th August 1947 -  Thor Heyerdahl completes his epic journey in his balsa raft Kon-Tiki.

They are saying on the radio that today, 9th August, is the 4th anniversary of the start of the `credit crunch'. On this day in 2007 the investment bank BNP Paribas told inestors they could not take money out of two of its funds because BNP could not value the assets. This was the big sign that told everyone that banks were refusing to do businees with one another. It doesn't seem like 4 years does it? There is a timeline on this 2009 BBC page (LINK).
