Sorry Bradders we live a Democracy and that's not the way to behave she must have been dragged up, and she deserves to go to Jail. One of these days, one of these protesters is going to get shot. I don't like Mandy either, but not the way to go about protesting.

Mmmmm........Might have to agree to differ on that one.
Prescott didn't go to jail for assault....but then again I s'pose he was provoked.
Sure it's a risky business if you decide on direct action... but at least she had the guts to do it ,.
And what sort of democracy is it anyway ,when a none elected politician can get away with the sort of thing we're led to believe Mandelson is responsible for?

Not sitting on the fence, just voicing uncertainty about the ethics of it. I have better things to do than devote valuable thinking time to coming to a conclusion, I don't need to do that.
I see we now have a 'controlling interest' in Lloyds Bank. Thing is that it has been arrived at by a horse-trading process between the Treasury and the bankers and I wonder who got the best end of the deal? Have we really got control? Or is there just a list of vague aspirations that depend on the good-will and cooperation of the bankers? I have no confidence in the negotiating skills of the Treasury. Am I an old cynic or just being realistic based on past performance? One thing is certain, when someone starts to ask questions they will hit the wall of 'commercial confidentiality'. Are we shareholders or not?
Morgan Changerai in Zimbabwe. Hit by a lorry, wife killed. Why is my crap detector whining?

Brit soldiers shot.....not in Afghanistan...but right on their base in Ireland. The IRA taking blame, the first in 10 years.

Interesting that the reaction of all the political parties in N I is the same, total rejection of the dinosaurs that did this. Not the IRA but someone from the rump of nationalists who are so ignorant that they haven't realised that history has moved on. So has intelligence gathering. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a very early series of arrests.

I would tend to agree on the early arrest, as long as we don't get the media going the wrong way. I thought Martin MacGuiness choose his words carefully " I deny them that right" I don't care what justice they get as long as they get it.

The Antrim cell of the "Real IRA" are supposed to be the first to take responsibility. If as reported the base is a staging point for deployment of engineers to Afghanistan it makes this even more tragic. Peace, Stability and economic growth are not enough for some people, they prefer to build on problems of the past to feed their own ignorance and need for a "cause".

Canada lost another 4 soldiers in Afghanistan this past week, all of them killed by roadside bombs, travelling to/from their assignments as part of reconstruction teams. If we are to continue taking losses I would rather that they be in combat when the action can be anticipated. Leave the good works of reconstruction to the locals, let them kill each other, if they don't want the reconstruction, can't do their own policing, then to hell with them.

Further to the Ireland shooting. Surely if we all carried grudges for the past wouldn't there be British cells planting bombs/shooting all over Germany?

Watching Ireland.... I have no opinions, jusst hopes that this retrofrade step can be conained and reversed but of course what damage will be done to the peace in the process?
Listened to Little Darling trying to convince everyone that the government has a plan and is doing the right things. One thing he said was that we all have to tighten our belts. Really.... did you watch the C4 programme last night about the lost billions? Very few things we didn't know but when they are all presented together what a story! I liked the disclosure that Mandy's department spends £2000 a month on flowers, a necessary expenditure? Why aren't we hearing about cuts in non-essential expenditure like Trident and Polaris? If ever there was a waste of money it is that. Exactly when and how would we ever use it? In case anyone hasn't noticed the US istalking to Russia about further cuts in these weapons. Perhaps we should follow their lead.

I must be a bit depressed this morning, I have been having dark thoughts. Suppose what we are seeing is even bigger than the Masters of the Universe think. Could Marx (Karl, not Groucho) have been right when he said that capitalism contains within itself the seeds of its own destruction?
One theory about the crisis speculates that it actually started during the big oil price rise, that this shock was too much for the system. Suppose there is a kernel of truth in this and then add in the other things that are changing like climate change, energy usage, waste and the gap between the income of the rich and the poor world-wide. Could we be in the grip of forces that are too big for us to comprehend? Not a ridiculous line of thought and quite unsettling to say the least.

Mark's may have been right, but I didn't fancy his alternative !!!!!. This is serious though, and unsettling just think of the all the people who have made plans for the future which are now in tatters. Ours are not in tatters but are changing by the week Is this just like the stock market every so often we have a " correction" and then off we go again ??? I don't know but I do wish someone would tell us the " truth " or do we see the truth all around us and deny it !!!! What I do know is that we have had an easier life than our parents, and that our parents had an easier life than theirs !!!! John Major had the right phrase which got laughted out " Back to Basics" I think that will be the next catch phrase again in the not to distant future.
