As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

Thanks for that Conty, it was just to show you how versatile pastels can be, and to "put my money where my mouth is" re the class. Yes it has been great fun so far, next one a date in April yet to be arranged, some line and wash, perhaps a pastel self portrait or two.

i am working on my next pastel, this time of 2 dogs but i gotta say i dont enjoy it the same as my pencils. i find it messy and dusty and its harder to really show any really fine details. so those of you that have mastered it, i take my hat off. though pastels are very quick to work with, so i guess it has its good points too
your pastel is excellent, do you do animals too?

I haven't done animals, it's not what I am into. Done other things though. A lot of people feel like you about pastels, neoprene gloves overcome the funny feel of them, though i work with a damp cloth nearby to keep my fingers clean, once you know how to angle them (I use square ones rather than round) you can get very fine lines. You can fix the picture and then work on top of it, but of course something you have fixed can't be removed. The other joy of them is you can put the highlights in last as light colours go over dark colours.

This is one I did from my hubbies photo, showing you how beautifully light goes over dark.

That's what I thought but decided not to say it. It's certainly realistic and conveys the movement of the water perfectly.

the 2 dog portrait is done, 2nd go at pastel and its getting easier, i think i am adapting, they have just come to collect and they were thrilled to bits. i took a photo of it as i cant scan it as its too large, and its not a great photo, but youll get the idea

im pleased that cheered you stanley!!

i have just purchased my own domain, so i am in the process of doing my own web site for my art work. then im going to design some business cards. busy day ahead, well until England play rugby, i cant miss that!

edit, got delayed.. police helicopter landed in the field behind our house, dont know why and now another air ambulance helicopter has just landed in the park, some walker had collapsed, i cant believe the down draft, i had to hold on to my hat!!! i think the whole village came out, just too much excitement for our sleepy village. right back to the designing LOL

The cheque goes in the post today Kid! It'll be interesting to see what my daughter's reaction will be! Perhaps this is the time for the tatoo, that would really get them worried!

Glad you liked the pic Conty, I agree it does look like a photo, as I said it is a copy in pastels,of one of Deadlies photo's, the sun effect is very typical and wouldn't occur with the naked eye which is the big give away I think.
I am intrigued by the secret you share with Stanley...not the Mr January pic is it?
