I'm about to take a drystone walling course, so it would be nice to have that. Also, there doesn't seem to be one for music - perhaps different genres would be a good idea (Rock, Folk, Classical etc).

Is there a place to post items about websurfing, emailing or computing in general? For example, I've just discovered a resource which lets you send large files which are too big to be accepted by someone's Inbox (many limit filesizes to 10mb or even 5mb) or to someone whose company's server blocks email from non-recognised sources (to eliminate spam but it also blocks some legitimate senders). It's called: www.YouSendIt.com and it's free. You simply key in the email address of who you want to send the file to, then upload your file to YouSendIt's server. An automatic email is then generated and sent to the recipient with a unique clickable link. (This expires after 7 days.) They can then download it at a time to suit them. I used to use my own webspace to do this, but this seems much faster and less hassle. If there were a category called, say, Computing, then these resources could become a valuable reference instead of being buried inside a thread on General Chat & Fun. |

Hmm. What with moving house etc, I'm afraid I didn't follow it up. I'll probably have to wait till next Spring before there's another course. There are quite a few on the go - one run by Skipton college, one from Lancashire and one by the Dry Stone Walling Association. |

Donald - why do you advise me against dry stone walling?

If you dont want a full formal course the R Simpson does walling round the Barlick area and might be worth contacting. He is a relative of Alan and Alwyn Simpson who run the farm at the top of Colne Road.

Taylforths on Church St (816000) were my first stop years ago when I was doing exactly what you are doing and I never regretted it. There are a couple of firms who do nothing but lets but in my experience thay don't have the bargains. Once you've started with one you'll soon plug into the others.

It's hard I did it for years has a Full time Job it's hard and heavy work on the fells
It's not just repairing walls it's buiding them from scatch you have to dig out and you have to carry all that stone from a quary to the site tons and tons of it and it all has to be done by hand and barrow work ( it might be the in thing to do) but I would advise anyone not to do it unless you are going to take it up has a trade.
