Quick reminder - this Friday is St Patrick's Day so why not come along to The Foster's Arms from 8pm till late and join in the fun? If you play an instrument, sing, or simply want to have a good night out listening to those Irish classics (Fields of Athenry, Whiskey in the Jar - you know the kind of thing) get yourself there. It's totally informal - no stage or 'turns' - just like they do it in Ireland. Nolic and Nandy - we'd really appreciate your company - how 'bout it lads?

Cally, sounds like a good night but I'm caught in this parent thing of free taxi service. Gundred is at a gig in Colne and I need to drop her of there and Dan at school. Gundred will make her own way put he needs picking up at 10.30. as they are having an end of show party.
If Nandy does get over makes yourselves known to him. He's really generous and likes buying people drinks. Nolic
PS Oops, forgot to check for spellings!

Impeccable speeling, Nolic.Shame you can't make it, but thanks for the tip about Nandy. When he took a crowbar to the rusty hinges on his wallet last Saturday, the moths flying out must have been his pets or something. |

The Syke has a licence till midnight - or 1am, at the landlord's discretion - so anyone with other plans could always come along later. [Is this gal desperate? Ed.]The landlord is putting on an Irish Stew, I think. |

No Kev, I've heard of them. I have no idea who she's going to see other than its bands from N&C college. She has a vary varied taste in music after listening to that lot on Saturday she's singing in "Carmina Burana" on Sunday at Burnley Mechanics. Nolic

Nolic is not joking when he says Nandy likes to be in the chair - he is the most generous person I have ever met - and I have the scars to prove it!
I am thinking of bringing the Happy Valley Wanderers Over Eighty Nudist Leapfrog Team Banjo Band over on Friday to play a few rude tunes .-The chap playing the mandolin in the Foster's Pics from last week is Ratcatcher Stu -don't tell him I called him that as he has a degree, or a length-certificate, or something, and the title degrades his satus!

Well I'll come and support it Cal, despite the hurt feelings caused by comments about my rusty wallet, Arkwrights Till is a flowing cornucopia by comparison - - - - - -
Nolic you should be ashamed not to be there, you being a proper Barlicker and all - - -
B.J, for god's sake don't bring that bloody banjo band, the pub has only just re-opened and could well finish up shut for good if that team come - - - - -although on second thoughts the banjos would do to serve the irish stew in - - - - -
Speaking of Stu, he is the local Environmental Health Officer, so that stew had better be good - - - - -the ratcatcher is just one of his merry band, some of the others include the dog warden, the pollution control officer, and the anti-banjo patrol, it being an offence to play a banjo in public - - - - - - - -

I should be out of Colne Muni by 11 at the latest. I could be drinking Black Sheep by twenty past, unless you lot drink it all by the time I get there.

If everyone comes along who says they'll come along, it should be a grand night.I hope we get lots of musicians as I personally prefer listening to Irish tunes rather than Irish 'pop' folk like Whiskey in the Jar or Fields of Athenry. That said, I did brush up on the words to these in case anyone requests them. |

I believe the Foster's Arms Paddy's Night Do got a mention on Radio Lancashire's folk programme last night. No doubt there'll now be hordes of people swarming in from Blaggburn and Ozzletwizzle, so get there early to secure your seat!Mind you, I think there are only about 3 houses in Barlick that can actually receive Radio Lancs. Funnily enough, I can receive it on my car radio right up to the door, but it just can't be found on my house radios. |

My mum & dad used to listen to Radio Lancashire all the time here in Longton (SoT). They moved house about 2 years ago and can't get it at the new house which is only about 1/2 mile from the old house.
