Dual purpose trip then, I had wondered about the possibility of a promotional visit, The Air Ambulance is this years sponsored charity at Boundary Mill and the helicopter has been there twice. A very worthwhile cause.

It is rather unwise to reveal your email address to the world. You never know what idiot is going to find it and use it for some purpose or other. You could quite easily find a crate of day old chicks on your doorstep, or at least in your inbox.

Hi Dawn, I know of an Arthur Waddington, who came from Fiddling Clough and used to play in Earby Brass Band. You will find him on Facebook.

Dawn, there is a mention of Frank in the Earby History Society's new book "A look back at Farming in Earby".
Stephanie Carter who wrote the book is a grandaughter of Amos Holden who also once lived at Fiddling Clough. This is what she says:
"Frank Waddington left to be a "preacher" to down and outs in Manchester prior to going to Israel and converting to Judaism."
I see Debbie Golding was also in Israel when she posted on the site.

I found this very interesting

Catty, post deleted, quite obviously unattributed rubbish. If you can find proof that this is a genuine quotation post it again with attribution. Stanley.

The post was obviously mischevious rubbish. Sorry about that Catty but we can do without it.

Enjoyed my visitor yesterday but very tiring! Johnny's patterns have a new home and will be sold on the net. OG will get a lot of exposure out of the deal. Good result.

Why ban the Dalai Lama from Desmond Tutu's event? I think you'd have great difficulty finding two less dangerous men to target!

I started a new topic 'Inspirational and Motivational Stories' but it seems to have disappeared ...... Was it moderated?

Like most of your opinions, mostly made up on the spot on and based on preconcieved dogma, this one is true to form and is erronious. Lighten up Stanley, and do not take everything at face value....think about it.

It may be the daily mash, but there is a serious point in there.

If everyone is training to be computer experts, who will be cleaning the streets and fixing pipes?

Education is a right and a privilege, everyone has the right to an education, but in a democracy you should also have the right not to. As a discussion I overheard yesterday said, what is the point in forcing people aged 14 to attend school until they are 18 if they are unable to grasp fundamental principles over maths and reading? Surely it is a waste of resources, and an unnecessary distraction. Others who wish to be educated also have a right to ensure that they are taught to the highest point of their ability.

I remember that the British Society once recognised that not eveyone was receptive to education in the early years, but made up for this by provision of adult education classes and the Open University. Now these institutions seem to be filled with the grey generation and ladies who lunch.

A fully integrated society recognises that different skills carry various degrees of value. Just try asking an emergency plumber their call out charge, and whether or not they went to "University" before they took up their profession.

Catty, your post had no explanation and was presented as a serious item. No problem with links, people can ignore them or make up their own minds. As for your advice to me, remember that it was personal comment that caused a lot of problems on the site not long ago. Your opinion of me interests nobody, best avoided.

The big attention grabber for me over the last three days is the total failure by the courier who is delivering my new shredder. Not a global problem but an annoyance i can do without! I hate waiting for deliveries.

The other and more interesting thing that grabbed me was a glimpse of an autograph in an item being sold on Flog-It. I saw the name Melbourne Inman.  (See this LINK)  I knew about him because when I interviewed Fred Inman he said that the reason why his brother was named Melbourne was because his dad was a big billiards fan and Melbourne Inman was the World Champion. He was a contemporay of the Davies Brothers and at that time billiards and snooker was very popular in the Working Man's Clubs. Amazing how the name jumped out at me when I saw it.
