As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

Conty well done and congratulations. Let us know the details of when the matches are on.
My lad Dan won't be able to play regularly next season as the local academy for up to 19 year olds play on Saturday and he works. His club Colne and Nelson are keeping his interest by putting him through an RFU junior coaching badge so he can help with the youngsters on a Sunday. Nolic

you know nolic, thats the thing thats worrying me already, is trying to do the things that you really want and still have a career to bring some money in when you leave school. what does he want to do? sports coach? i train in bath uni, where the Bath rugby squad train in the gym, their health and fitness coach is a really nice bloke and has given me lots of help and advice, and ggeee hes huge!!!! but im not allowed to do rugby anymore because of my discus and modelling contract, but i did enjoy it, always shocked the other teams when i would walk on 6ft 5 and i was 14. is your dan a big lad?

Sorry Conty thought you were referring to rugby for some reason. I'd forgot about your discus - that was my only athletic achievement as a schoolboy and I just missed out on selection to represent Yorkshire schoolboys.
Dan is 17 just over 6ft and is just under 15 stone. He started off as second row but the club converted him to prop - he's quite good at the confrontation but I'm not sure he's in the right position as he has a few brains!! He does manage to balance out his time pretty well with his five a side football, music, drama ( he's doing Boogie Nights at the moment ) college and now the rugby coaching. He had wanted to do something in drama but is now widening his scope and is thinking of doing maths or engineering at Uni to give him more options.
Good luck with the championships and don't forhget to tell us when you're on TV. Nolic

Conty is there no end to your talents? Just look after them fingers boy, chucking stuff is all very well but drawing is where you have got it made! (don't let me influence you in any way...like Dans drama these things can always be done along side a career of a different nature!)

someone said today it will be on sky and it will be on saturday 11th july between 2 and 4 oclock, but i will let you know nearer the time, just to be sure.
my fingers are safe doing discus belle, please dont worry!! ive given up the rugby!!! thats the dangerous one, and not too good for the modelling either.
and ive decided im going to do a few more drawings for this drawing competition, im thinking the more i enter the more chance of drawing something the judges like = more chance of winning the dosh!!
and it sounds like your dan keeps busy like me!! better than sitting around like alot of my mates, drinking and taking drugs!! what no brainers!! LOL

oh nolic, just re-read your message, you did discus? can you remember what distance you where throwing back then? haha thats how i got into it in the first place.
i broke the school discus record on sports day and when i told my dad. he said he was his schools champion at discus when he was at school. He found out his old discus in the shed for me to practice at home!! yet he never mentioned it before then. must be in the blood!!!

must have interesting blood, chucking things, perhaps there are greek olympians in there. I did shot put at school but only because they made all the big kids chuck things cos they couldn't run!

Sorry Conty cannot remember distance as it was about 44years ago - and in feet and inches if I recall. I'd thrown shot a few times and was OK - represented the school once at junior level and lost. Discus just seemed to fall right for me when I was about 14 or 15 and I was throwing a bit father than others in my group. That and making up the numbers in the junir colts, colts and seniors rugby squads was about the limit of my sporting prowess. I kept the rugby on at Uni but when playing against some of the mens teams thought it was a bit tough for me and stopped playing.
Dan won the Pendle schools shot put a couple of years ago and he can throw a cricket ball for miles. I can't but our dog has a ball on a rope and using straight arm type throw 'cos of a dicky shoulder I can still throw that over half way across the cricket ground.
Still no noews of when the games are on ? Nolic

Reading all this makes me realise what a sheltered life i Had as a lad! They missed the sports and competitive gene when they assembled me and my route to burning energy off was cycling ridiculous distances. I remember we went on holiday to Shyl once and I refused the car ride, I biked there and back. I'd be about 14 at the time. Still have good legs and no various veins!

everyones talents are different but we all have them, i guess we are lucky if you happen to stumble upon them. mum and dad have always encouraged me to try loads of different things in the past, rugby, golf, football, swimming and kerate but have never pressured me to do it, just give it a go. and im rather good with a shot gun (clay shooting) when i was 6 i would hit 6 out of ten on a regular mans clay trap. i still get to shoot with my dad but its hard to fit everything in, so we dont go as much as we both would like, oh and archery too!! god now you got me thinking about it i sound like blody superman as i won a competition doing that too!! but im not i promise you LOL
nolic the games are on the TV Sat 11th july, but dont know what sky channel yet, i will let you know when i hear.

yeah maybe, lots are good at music too that are artie, do you play an instrument? i play the guitar and the drums, though i love my guitar the most, i play it as much as i can. nothing bettter than sat in my room singing along to what im playing, its one of the things that really relaxes me, my parents always nag me to take it on holiday with me as they love sitting on the beach on an evening having me play the guitar, sometimes it turns into a right sing song!!!
