Hi, I have just joined because although I don't have any personal links to this area as yet, during my years of research I have compiled a fair list of EDMONDSON entries which sit there in my database, so I thought I may as well offer to share them all.

In my database I have lots of will Index entries 1858 - 1972 , (1910 - 1950 still in the process of transcription, census entries compiled in conjunction with these to try to ascertian who the executors were and family trees, again compiled by me.

My Edmondson's were concentrated in Bradford Yorkshire but having searched back to 1790's in Wibsey I have come across a brick wall and I am hoping that by doing this I can one day reach out to that clue that gives my 4t ggf's original family's place of origin.

Please ask away and if I can help I will.

I've always been intrigued by the name 'Heriff Cottages' in Butts.  'Heriff' is a name I came across in Warwickshire for a weed known also as 'Goose Grass' or 'Cleavers'.  Cleavers comes from the fact that the seed heads cling to fur or cloth.  Has anyone come across the name 'Heriff' being used for the weed anywhere else in the NW or is Heriff in connection with the cottages a corruption of something else?

John,

I found a refernce to Wibsey but can't find anything further, can you or other listers help at all please?

James Edmondosn born c1817 married Rachel Hiper in 1852 as his second wife, born c1829 Wibsey/Trawden/Low moor in the 3 census entries during her marriage to James,  this was the family living at Extwistle Hall.

However I cannot find a Rachel Hiper at all in 1841 or 1851 , can you suggest a name variation or something to give me a lead please?

Looked at her name on the marriage index, thinking it may have been a wrong transcription, but it seems correct. I have tried all sorts of spellings, even just put in her first name and year of birth but nothing jumps out-----sorreee.

Have you got the wedding cert, that will give her father.

HI Gloria,

No I have'nt as I was simply piecing up the Briercliffe family on the suggestion of John and she popped up apparently born in Wibsey, John said there was a connection.

Strange , I've been trying all night with variations of where she could have been born, Low Moor, Wibsey, North Bierley, bradford and Trawden just incase.

Marmaduke and Redmayne are two names that go together historically, try googling marmaduke redmayne! Redmaynes in my history hence the interest.
