I've been thinking of starting this topic for a while.  Let's see how it goes....

Asked if he was in charge of the nation, in the absence of the Prime Minister -
Mr Clegg told Metro: ‘Yeah, I suppose I am. I forgot about that.

Ahh, Marriot Edgar! You're a man of quality Brad! 'And t'Duke said Right lads, let battle commence!'

One quotation from a poem sticks in my head and I've never gone searching for it in case I was disappointed. The context is a gaggle of old, dead, ghostly generals commenting on Monty in the desert. 'It wasn't our practice to fight in snow boots and Good God Sir! What's this? An umbrella?!'

My favourite quote is from the Battle of Hastings poem
"They were offside, but what could they do?"

Just think, a man like Stanley Holloway could stand on a stage and entertain simply by reciting a monologue. Times have changed haven't they.

We have a friend who's party piece is to recite one or maybe two if your lucky, (depends if you have plied enough whisky). Runcorn Ferry, the Albert sagas, Magna Charter and Three h'apence a foot are all thankfully still in Alans recall. Thing is you know most of the words yourself and you know what's coming but they still entertain for the way they are delivered.

"Now he'd just snapped the ed of a big un"

Priceless!

My personal favourite is "Little Aggie" , especially when done by Bernard Wrigley..........

The bit that always gets me is near the end .......

She 'adnt thestrength to say "ninety-nine"

She just managed a weak "eighty-five"

I missed that David. I thought he was already at peak paranoia! Mind you...

"Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you" I think that may be quite true in this case!

If Dick Francis had written yesterday's happenings in the Derby as a plot line, his publishers would have sent it back as fanciful.

One of the scientists appearing on Professor Brian Cox's hilarious `Infinite Monkey' programme on Radio 4...

"Philosophy is to science as pornography is to sex - it's cheaper, easier and some people prefer it".
