Never in my orbit. I was once asked to invest in the revival of the Imp as a venue in the 70s but it didn't look like a good bet to me.

1964/5 onwards. Saw Dusty Springfeild, The Troggs, The Who, Spencer Davis Group (2x they were brilliant) DD,D,MandT, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Four Pennies, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, Chris Farlowe and the Thunderbirds,PJ Proby, Napoleon the Third(?) - They're Coming to Take me Away Ha, Ha,) Brian Poole and the Tremeloes + many more that I can't remember. Went there virtually every Saturday during school summer holidays for 2 or 3 years - only time I had any money . Nolic

Gerry Marsden was another Nolic, we must have been down about the same time. You missed the B out of DDD "B"M and T.
Dave Clark Five. Alan Price Set (didn't they play down there?).
Swinging Blue Jeans.

Hi Dave....Can't add any more at the moment, except  to say that the Beatles  definitely played there twice.

My "Uncle" (more like second cousin twice removed) Roland Cort  ** was part owner of The Imp so I'll ask my Mother if she remembers any Names too!

Oh .....Acker Bilk, and probably Kenny Ball too , might be worth a punt.

The Nelson Leader will be a good source too......The program was advertised each week.

**Cort's owned  furniture shops and a babywear store in Barlick too (was it called Babycraft ?)

All,

Thanks for the responses so far.
I went to the Imp most weekends in the late '60s and saw most of the bands mentioned ......  Also Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Van Morrison (with Them) etc etc.
Was looking for specific dates of artists appearing
Will post my listing on this forum when completed if anybody is interested?

Dave

Can't really help with specific dates but I would be interested in your listing. It was the early/middle 60's when I went, 64/65'ish.
Mustn't  forget The Hollies and Georgie Fame.
Nelson Leader archives would be your best bet, if you are local.

Can't help with specific dates but between1955 & 1958 saw Ivy Benson & her all girls band; Ted Heath, with singers Denis Lotis & Lita Rosa; Ken MacIntosh; Billy Cotton and others.  In either 1963or 1964 saw the Rolling Stones.

Dave, there used to be - maybe still is - a guy who had a general hardware stuff in the market at Nelson who might know a fair bi as he alos sold posters from the Imp days. Its years since I went into there so he may have long gone. Nolic

OH No....Belle .....SORRY...Think of the first number I thought of...!

I've just re-read the above and realised I've fallen for my old trick AGAIN.

I was correct the first time , there used to be a nationwide furniture company called COURTS,

but the family that owned the stores in Nelson ,  Burnley and Barlick  were called CORT.... ( old Gurth Cort was related to my Grandfather by marriage)

I grew up thinking they were the same, but they weren't . Doh !

Only went occasionally as it was other side of Pendle Hill for me but do remember seeing Bobby Darin and The Temperence Seven.
