Did the Rolling Stones appear at the Imp. The manager Bob Caine lived a few doors away from me. Nice chap.
Hi R Spencer, I am Bob Caine's Daughter, where did you live? I might remeber you. The Roling Stones did come down the Imp, it was reported that they were staying with au at the time, they didn't of course! They were fantastic!

Sony, I  lived at no 73 Townhouse Road in Nelson. Later, we moved to no 59. I can remember a fire raging on the bank across from our house, your dad came out and phoned the fire brigade. I think I remember you. Nice to recall those old memories. All the best, Ray.

Hi Ray, I lived at 51 Townhouse with my younger Sister Catherine and Brother Anthony, not been back since we moved, is it still there? Dad sadly passed away 16 years ago, he always stayed the same likeable fella.

Hello Trish, yes in answer to your question no 51 is still there. I do remember you and your sister quite well. You used to come and play with me and my older brother Barry who is three years my senior. So sorry to hear about your dad. As you say a very likeable fella. Do you remember Sid and Jennie's shop on Deerstone Road, I remember you mum going in there. I now live, still with my mother and father, on Hallam Crescent in Nelson. I'm not married, never found the right girl, or she never found me, I'm afraid. Never mind though. Did your dad later work in Blackpool, as I remember my mother saying Bob was working over that way. Nice to hear from you Trish. Take care and bye from Ray.

My Great Uncle George (Perkins) always claimed that he laid that floor. I recall it was sprung parquet.  I don't think he did it on his own though, but no doubt if he were still alive he would claim that he did.

It used to "spring" an awful lot. It was rumoured to go up and down 6ins in the middle from level.

Sprung Maple dance floors were always recognised as the best construction. I remember the Empress Ballroom adverts in Stockport reporting that it was the largest such floor in the North of England. The Tower Ballroom at Blackpool was another example.

I went to the "Imp" in 1960 to receive an award from the Lancashire and Cheshire Institutes at the end of course bash, the band that night was "The Glenn Miller Sound" very impressive.

And here's one from yet another Dave (I was bass guitarist in The Electrons). It's a bus flyer from 1964.  Thought you might be interested.Nelson Imp flyer 1964

Redcaps, a group from Birmingham i bought a single by them called Funny Things. I have no idea how he did it but Bob Caine always seemed to get the groups who had topped the charts that week at the Imp that saturday night. What a great place that was, saw some great bands down there  The revolving stage, I remember seeing Manfed Mann there in 1966 when Pretty Flamingo was top of the charts, that small stage was packed with 7 musicians all the amps etc and Paul Jones leaping around the stage like a mad man. I have to say of all the groups i saw in the sixties they put on the best show. Ah the memories of good music

Steve Chapples (not to be confused with Steve Chapple) has an excellent book "Goin Down Th'Imp".

Alternatively, have a look at

http://www.lankybeat.com/The%20Impnelson.html

I presume that this originated from Bob Caine's daughter (also contributed to this topic). She's done your work for you!

Fascinating, found while searching on Nelson Imp. the list of bands at lankybeat is eye opening. I recall going to some of the 1970/71 ones like Colosseum, Curved Air, Medicine Head, T.Rex and probably others when I browse the list. But after 1971, it closed for some years (or wasn't used for bands)...but then no one has mentioned the resurgence in 1975 ?. I recall seeing Brand X (feat Phil Collins) because my mate was in a local band, Derek White's Shuttlecraft, supporting them. Others in 1975 I know I went to but can't at the moment recall any one!.

Hi All I found this site because I was trying to ascertain if I really had seen Otis Redding at the Imp in the 60s.  I've searched for venues on the Stax tour of '67 but they only ever seem to talk about the London ones. Did I dream this? I'm sure I remember Sam & Dave and Booker T at this show too
