The brisket was lovely and the left over casserole blitzed made really good gravy. I served it with roast & new potatoes, curly cale, roast butternut squash and roast beetroot plus of course yorkshire puddings. I have not tried roasted beetroot before, I saw the recipe on Gino's 4pm show on ITV. Peel and cut the beetroot into about 6 pieces, drizzle oilive oil over, sea salt and then balsamic vinegar - it was very good, will do that again.

Is it only me that is slightly concerned that you are eating "Jack's dog meat" Stanley?

No problem Belle. Jack's meat is best mince simmered till cooked and then stored in a bowl in the fridge. The fat seals the top so the first cut is perfectly edible. And yes, he's a well-fed dog. I never feed a dog anything I wouldn't eat myself, I've seen what goes into 'pet food'! Mind you, I always remember a report of an inspection of the Kit E Kat factory which congratulated them on the fact that they were a better standard than many food processing factories doing food for human consumption!
I used the gravy from the pork to make veggie soup and once again made more than I should!

Cottage pie made with the rest of the brisket - really good value meat - 3 meals for less than £10.

They come and go Moh. Belle's watching us! One thing is sure and certain, we are eating healthy food at the lowest possible price.
Last of the veggie soup bit the dust last night and I finished the pork and blood pudding in a buttie for tea. A new loaf is in the breadmaker (I noticed the price of putty bread yesterday in the Cathedral of Choice!) and it's butcher's day. Pie and peas for lunch and who knows what for tea? Sausage casserole perhaps?
I see there is another argument about obesity, food processing and food labelling. All too little too late, government food policy is dominated by the processors. When does someone bite the bullet and create a department of Nutrition with powers to enforce decisions. The Food Agency is useless....

Aye...well we have been sustaining ourselves. Homemade Chicken and Veg Soup with Dumplings last night. Egg, Lettuce and Mayo Rolls for lunch today. Tuna Patties, Weight Watcher Style Chips (cut as quarter inch discs, quick application of spray oil, salt and pepper, cook for 45 mins, turning once, in the oven), with Cauliflower, Baby Peas and Carrots. (burp) (rubbing tummy) Yep...doing nicely, thankyou...

We were going to eat out tonight but we went down Burnley so called in M&S and got one of their £10 dining for 2 meals, they are excellent value with plenty of choice. "2 sirloin steaks, a side dish of mixed veggies, a strawberry trifle and a bottle of Cote de Rhone red wine. The steaks & the wine were valued over £10.

Just had chinese take away but have made a sweet chilli chutney. Apples, plums, 5 chillis, 1 red pepper, red wine vinegar, brown caster sugar. Tastes good, only slight kick (does me).

Bag of broth bits, spoonful of Bovril, three small chopped onions and seasoning. (Oh, and a bit of Jack's dog meat to get protein levels up!) Two helpings of cheap nutritious veggie soup for about 75p each. Who says good food is dear!

Just made a banana loaf, it is so long since I did any baking I hope it turns out OK. (I don't bake because hubby, who is a diabetic, would eat it all!!). Casserole steak, mash & mixed veg tonight.
