A very interesting and well-written article has appeared in `Physics Today', the magazine of The American Institute of Physics, by Steve Sherwood, codirector of the Climate Change Research Centre at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. It's in the October 2011 issue, page 39, with the title `Science controversies past and present': "Reactions to the science of global warming have followed a similar course to those of other inconvenient truths from physics."

I think "Inconvenient truths" just about covers it. Did I hear a news item the other day that eight out of ten of the Earth's warmest years in recent history have happened since 1997? 2011 was the warmest in UK for a long time....
