My mother's aunt Sarah A Robinson married Ambrose Broughton who was born in abt 1867 in Burnley. His father was Robert Broughton whose father was another Ambrose Broughton who was born in Barnoldswick around 1812. I am sure there are references within this web site to an Ambrose Broughton but search as I might I cannot find it. I have only just joined you all and obviously I havent read the guidance notes!!! Any help would be gratefully received

Hi,
if you google the name Ambrose Broughton the 2nd one down is the link to the Oneguyfrombarlick thread. I tried to copy and paste it but it won't allow me to do it.

Hi Malcolm, I have had a look , and it is like searching for a needle in a haystack!
If you type the name into the Turbo Search Box it brings up the topic called " Broughton Family-My Barlick Links". You can then read through the whole topic.....this could make your head spin, or put you to sleep.
Doing a Google search, as Gloria suggested, brings you to the right page within the topic, narrowing things down a bit!
I tried it last night, but still didnt spot the name. I have this morning though so hopefully if you click here, it will take you to the right page

Many thanks Gloria & Wendy. I have now found Ambrose b1821. I have also realised that on my father's side  Ann Broughton 1821-1851 (whose parents were Joseph Broughton from Salterforth 1782-1856 and Elizabeth Nunick from Coates 1786 -1854) married James Starkie from Barnoldswick 1816-1875 in 1842 in Barnoldswick. The Broughtons get everywhere!

Hi Malcolm

I have an Ambrose born in Barnoldswick in 1811.  (15/7/1811) Son of John Broughton and Jane Wigglesworth.  But noone in 1821.

I also have Nanny Broughton christened 24/1/1821 at Barnoldswick, daughter of John (Mason) and Jane from Brockden.

And also Ann Broughton christened at Barnoldswick 30/6/1822, daughter of Joseph (Labourer) and Betty from Cotes.

All these are from the original parish records of Barnoldswick held at the Preston Records office.

I'm descended from Dewhurst Broughton christened in 1808 in Barnoldswick.  I have a databse of Broughtons born and married in the area and can pass it onto you if you wish.

All the best

Nigel Broughton

Nigel I would appreciate a copy of your famiy tree. As I indicated both sides of my family have a Broughtoin connection. Certainly your Joseph and Betty from Coates seems to tie in with my Joseph & Elizabeth Nunick from Coates. although your Ambrose appears toi be ten years out from mine. I shall check my information again to see if there has been any error. Ambrose doesn't appear to be a common name. I understand he was a mill owner in BUrnley but have not been ables to establish the name of the mill. Thanks again
Malcolm

If you are using Mozilla firefox, when searching for a word or phrase just press Ctrl  and f,  this creates a pop up you just type in what you are looking for select highlight and all you are searching for will be highlighted
