Dawn , I haven't had chance to look up anything for you yet, last week when I was at the library I got sidetracked with my own research.. I hope to be searching that microfilm this or next week.

As for Daneshouse there is a bit about it in Bennetts Book on The History of Burnley, plus some information about the Folds ( not much , just a little) There is a photograph of a later version of Danehsouse.  Are you in the UK. If so you could go to your local library and order a copy. The Book is in 4 parts. It is all an excellent read if your family is from Burnley. Dad lent me his copy 3 years ago and I still have it. I delve in to it at least once a week, and at the moment once a day!!!!

Foulds House and Daneshouse are definitely not the same properties. Folds House was mainly connected with the Ecroyds, and had a short connection to the Trawden Folds.The property is located in Briercliffe, above Catlow. Daneshouse is in Burnley Town proper. As a matter of interest the Burnley historian T.T. Wilkinson was convinced that the battle of Brunenburgh was fought in this area. Saxifield being related to one enclave and Daneshouse to the others.

##Foulds House, popularly known as ‘Th’ Acred’ or ‘Ecroyds’ was built about 1600, but the building takes its name from previous owners, the ‘Folds’ family#. It is first mentioned in a document of 1443 when the farm was in the tenure of Henry del Folds, but the farm may be much older.

By 1277 Adam of Preston’s share of the Extwistle Manor had passed to Kirkstall Abbey, near Leeds. At this time there were almost certainly farms at Walshaw, Mustyhalgh, Elders I’ th’ Row and Foulds House.

In 1443 there were some 12 main families in the area, including the newcomers of Lister who had succeeded to Foulds House. The Listers of Midhope, near Gisburn, were one of the most influential families in the region. They severed their link with Briercliffe when they sold the Foulds estate to the Ecroyd’s in 1544.

In the 1680s there is a reference to John Ecroyd of Foulds House showing he carried on the business established by his grandfather many years before. John was the 1st Ecroyd to embrace the teachings of the Society of Friends for which he suffered imprisonment at Lancaster. In 1683 he lost, by distraint, a Kersey piece of wool ‘…… Because he would not swear that his child was buried in woolen’
