As there are a number of artists among our midst, I thought I would start a topic for watercolour painting.

To add to the new topic. Here's one my dad did when he was 12 years old in 1930. I'ts a bit faded now and mounted behind glass, I tried scanning it but found I got a better result from a digital photo. Ain't she cute!

he certainly was a skilled artist Ian, and at twelve years old a born talent. I believe that in his later life he specialised in minitures, is this true ? and do you  have any  examples? ....Gus

P.S. Ian there are certainly some wonderful artists in this area, just two of many that come to mind are Pat Jones, and Mavis Nuttal, the reason I mention these two in particular is that i have paintings by both of these local lassies, and then there is Edith Towler, who done the "Rag Albert " portrait. the Barlick library regularly do exhibitions of various local art groups etc, always worth a look, i`m sure we would like to see more of your fathers work if possible...Gus

Yes Gus he did miniatures in watercolour, oils and some in pen and ink. He was quite prolific and exhibited at Skipton and Grassington from time to time. When he died, I distributed a lot of his miniatures to family and friends, there were just too many to keep. I still have quite a few though. He worked from sketches and photographs. I have some of the stuff he did during the war in sketch pads and the like. I'll dig some out.

Absolutley brilliant. Makes me want to hang up my brushes again, but I've only had them out a couple of days. I will hang fire for a little while. We have an autograph album from the early 20thC with some lovely small sketches in them. We miss doing these things now that we have the all singing all dancing tele.

I treated myself to a book on e-bay, its by a guy called John Blockley who was a brilliant watercolourist who sadly died a few years ago . Thease books are now are very collectable.

Very realistic Tom !Nice soft work. Tree trunk could be a bit wider. Very good to get the atmosphere
