New topic to make it easier to load. I had the last of the Colcanan I made two days ago. It lasted so long because I bought some small Cox's that were never going to tipen so, waste not want not, I pelled them, stewed them down a bit and after draining them popped them in with the colcanan. Bit more seasoning and it was nice....

Give him a sachet and a cup of hot water and tell him to get on with it, after all as yousay, on holiday it should be ease of preparation!

We will see, Belle.
We do actually have that policy - that if you don't like what is served at any given meal MAKE SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF. I always throw in some single serve packet pastas, soups, Mac Cheese, Noodles and small tins of Tuna. There is always Ham, Cheese...salad stuff. Haven't had one body lost to starvation YET.
The menu is pretty much set now and I've only really sat down here to type it up this afternoon. Put the final touches to it whilst watching 'Corrie' this morning. (Our Corrie episodes are way behind yours - they have just finished celebrating Christmas 2002!!!!!)

I have marinated some Chicken Breasts this afternoon...chopped up in a container with Red Capsicum, Green Capsicum and Onion. I intend to serve it over Rice. Made a bit of a whoopsie when making the marinade (Soy Sauce, Lemon Sauce, Piri Piri, Chinese Five Spice and a little oil)....I grabbed the Cumin by mistake and gave a hearty shake....then tried to remove it with a spoon...not too successfully...and figured it wouldn't matter. But a little taste tells me it does! Oh Dear...perhaps it will burn off in the pan?(My tongue is a bit numb now...)
No doubt there will be grumbles from 'head office' tonight!

Boiled some brisket in pressure cooker. Let fat settle and put that in the deep fat fryer. Used gravy with onions, garlic, carrots and a lot of cabbage to make a nourishing stew and added half the brisket chopped up. Lovely. The rest of the brisket will go in beef butties.

My daughter dropped a couple of Craster kippers in yesterday direct from the smokery. I had half of one for supper as finger food and it was beautiful. A lovely fat herring perfectly smoked and not too salty. What a difference when you compare this sort of quality with the usual offering.

Maz - the Spanish chicken is back a few pages on this topic.  Lamb chops & chips tonight - plain food after our hols.  Strange what people long for after a holiday, at Dubrovnik airport yesterday we got talking and people were looking forward to Fish, chips & mushy peas; fish finger sandwiches with brown sauce; baked beans on toast; bacon butties etc.

I just like to get HOME after a holiday....it has nothing to do with food. I miss my own bed, my lovely hot, thundering shower, my own loo, my lovely quiet garden etc.
My menu has been set now Moh, though I will look back and check out this recipe.

Fish tonight. Fingers crossed because it is the boxed and crumbed variety (strange that the fish all seem to grow to the same size and shape, isn't it?)...but Febby spotted it in the supermarket freezer, picked up the packet and said in a kind of far off way...with a kind of far off look in his eye...."I used to eat this before we were married and I don't think we have had it since".
Likely there is a good reason for that. Likely it tastes like crap!
So it ended up in the basket and tonight's the night.

Half a kipper and a fried egg in a butty for breakfast. Lovely. Didn't cook for tea, ate bits like apples and cheese just for a change.

Hope it was good Maz.  Lamb shank tonight which I had got out to defrost before we fancied the chops.  Still we had no lamb in Montenegro so it will be nice.  (The guide on the coach said that as we had all enjoyed our holiday we should support Montenegro in the match tonight !!)

He enjoyed it, Moh. Can't say I was that impressed, but it made a change I suppose.
Homemade Soup tonight.
I'm having trouble enjoying anything much at all at present due to toothache. I've made an appointment at the dentist but can't get in before next Tuesday unfortunately, though I am on the cancellation list, to be called if someone else cancels their appointment. Just have to grin and bear it until then. (there was a time when a dentist would slip you in somewhere if you presented with toothache, but those days are gone...now it is an 9 day wait and they don't seem too concerned about you in the meantime. Has anyone ever died of toothache, I wonder?)

Sorry about that Maz, toothache and earache are a bummer. One old-fashioned remedy is to rub around it with Oil of Cloves. Natural anaesthetic.

Got a phone call this morning offering me an earlier appointment with a different dentist, so i grabbed it. Should be out of my misery by this time tomorrow.
(Four dentists at this practice and not one of them with an English surname)

Dental appointment did not go well. Quite disastrous, in fact.
(I knew there would be trouble when a very young lass who stood about four feet high in six inch heels said 'come this way'....oh no!...she was the dentist. Where was my big burly male dentist, who had the muscle to pull the tooth in two seconds?)
So nervous patient and hesitant, fairly newly qualified dentist were not a good match.
She would only inject local twice...though she quoted that it was quite safe to inject seven times but she always erred on the side of caution for safety sake. Twice didn't do it for me, I am afraid. I tried to put up with the pain but she fiddled and fiddled and fiddled and it was excrutiating. I begged her to PLEASE just pull the damn thing out without all this fiddling...but I think the whole process was beyond her.
In the end (after two 'half hour 'goes') with me having a half hour kip in the waiting room in between because she said I was too stressed for her to proceed, she gave up. Tooth is well loosened and I now have two options. I can wait until Monday and hope the original dentist can fit me in OR I can go to casualty with a letter from her.
I'm hanging off for Monday at this point, but I can tell you, I am NOT looking forward to it one little bit.

Poor Maz - sounds like she needs more confidence herself.

Had steak pudding, chips and mushy peas - can't beat the steak puddings from the butchers in Brierfield - they put real steak in not mince. Home made steak pie tonight with mash & cauliflower.
