Hi, i used to live on Smith street until i moved to Canada in 1990. I remember the street and I'm sure it hasn't changed much but I am curious about the field area that sort of surrounds the top half of Smith street. It was in the process of being built on, i was wondering what it all looks like now?? Can someone possibly take some photos? Also there was a great big oak tree behind number 21 where my best friend Vicky Slater lived. Does anyone know if it's still there? I hope so and I wonder too if that bra is still hanging off it

You lot will have me worn to a frazzle! I've just got back from doing 20 and now you want another one.....

Right, Here's the view from the back of 20 Smith Street, one looking directly down where Hartley Street used to be and one looking over towards Dark Hill. You can see that the developers have struck!

I shall have a cup of tea and my breakfast and consider doing 14 Back Smith Street.......

Hi there,

I have just joined your website and was looking for some comments about Smith Street. tmason wrote that there was an old woman called Edmondson that used to live there and her husband's name was Ned. Yes that's absolutely true. Edith Edmondson is my grandmother and my grandfather's name was Ned. My mother lived there Rhoda Edmonson with 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Two of the sisters still live on Smith Street. Madge who is married to Dick Fallis and my Aunt Greta who lives right on the corner of Smith St and (ithink) Colne Rd. Her husband's name was Sam Young. They have a daughter Denise Young. My mother was married to Gordon Mason and they came to Canada in the late 1940s,early 1950s. My mum passed away in 2002 and my dad passed away in 1998. The last time I was in Barlick was 22 years ago. I think I might go back for a last visit sometime soon. Both my uncles (Herbert Edmondson and Ronald Edmondson) have passed away. My other Aunt's name is Dorothy Spencer. Married to Ernest Spencer. They have one daughter named Deborah Spencer. Well I guess that's about enough for now. If anybody knows my family please let me know. Tara

I haven't posted anything for ages and my daughter (smason) mentioned seeing the post from Jean-Anne so I had a look.  I think Gordon was a distant relative, I'll ask my dad next time I call him.  Sorry to hear they have passed away, I always meant to try to get in touch.  Unfortunately I never did.

Don't worry too much, we all have a list of people we should have kept in touch with and left it until it was too late.  As you get older and they start dropping off the perch it gets worse.  The trick is to keep soldiering on and send the Xmas Cards!

Just noticed tmason and smason's comments. Sorry haven't been on here for awhile. You say that Gordon Mason is a distant relative. Here is some more info. He had a brother called Harry Mason. Lived on Calf Hall Rd. Wife Emily. Daughter Joan. His father's name (my grandfather) was Evelyn Mason and his wife's name was Selena. Unfortunately I never knew them. This was Evelyn's second marriage. My dad Gordon also had a stepbrother named Ralph from the 1st marriage and there is a stepsister also. Don't know the name. My Uncle Ernest is investigating this for me as I do not have much info. I will probably be going back to Barlick in March for my 50th b-day. Haven't been back for 28 years.  whatchutalkingabout There isn't much family left now. Only on my mum's side (Edmondson). Two sisters. Dorothy and Greta.
