I recieved this message from  one of our new members today:

Hello Doc, I have been trying to find an email address for The Barlick History Society and came up with you.
Just to alert the society to a rather interesting photograph offered on ebay at present. It could be a religious gathering. Thought it might be useful for the society files.

Ian,

At this moment in time, to the best of my knowledge the Barnoldswick History Society do not have an online presence . A lot of their members participate on this site however the actual Society does not have its own website.

There is an open invite not only to the Barnoldswick History Society but all the local History Societies in this area together with all their members to participate in their own dedicated forums/archives here on the OneGuyFromBarlick Site.

We have the resources, skills and most important the visitors from around the world who's thirst for our local knowledge is unquenchable. We are currently achieving nearly a thousand visitors a day who read more than 50,000 pages every month.

If any of the Society members read this topic and would like further information then please do not hesitate in contacting me at webmaster@oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk

I'd like to endorse Doc's massage.  Hosting a successful website is a very time-consuming task.  I started my own but have never touched it since Doc contacted me and started this one.  I have often wondered why the churches and other local organisations haven't piled in on to us.  If it's a proprietary instinct or inter-group rivalry, please try to get past this barrier.  As anyone can see, the last thing this site is into is hoarding information or competing with anyone.  Avery item on this site is free to air, there are no copyright restrictions or charges.  Most important of all, we have the traffic, Doc got the formula right and the viewing figures prove it.  We must be the best supported local history site in the world!

So come on in, if you want a section dedicating to you, no problem.  just ASK!.

I think it's a fantastic idea. How many organisations out there don't have a site of their own because of the possible cost involved in getting one?

So doc gave you the massage then did he Stanley...is this a service he's offering to all site members

My job is running the PendleLife website (http://www.pendlelife.co.uk)  and I offer free websites to community groups and information providers with support and workshops to help them get their site up and running and get it noticed.

I find that a lot of groups are very unsure about the benefits of the Internet and/or do not have computers and this can make it very difficult for them to maintain and online presence.

Hi Lynda

I have just visited the BHS's new site, welcome to the Internet

Apart from the societies contact and meeting schedules I didn't find any "Historical" information available. Is the site's purpose to give surfers an initial contact point or will the site be developed further to incorporate the mass of information held in the societies archives. If so, a good starting point would be to publish the societies index of articles and artifacts held by the society. This would be a good starting point for the historical hunter and avoid the mass hoards asking you for information that you haven't got.

Sorry if I seem to be a bit nosey in the societies online future but I only want to help with valuable advice gained by running this site.

The purpose of the website is what has been missing - a point of contact and information re the societies events, lectures etc. I am quite happy with the current format.

Some of our archive material will be on display on 27 August 9.30-12.30 at Barnoldswick Library. We have a wealth of material which we have rescued from various sources(including Rainhall Rd School memorabilia). Rather than see it destroyed we removed it .

Some of our material is curently being scanned for display purposes and we have started to use new technology to store data.  We are still in the process of cataloguing archive material. However this is time consuming and an ongoing project.

Hope this answers your queries,

Regards,

Lynda
