ps We don't have the generating capacity for this, or the transmission lines. Mandy has lost the plot, or has he !!!! Alex Salmond got elected on wild promises that the peole believed he could delivery. Everyone of his has failed scrapping the Council Tax being his biggest

"We don't have the generating capacity for this, or the transmission lines"

...or the automotive technology or battery technology (at least not for affordable family cars that can go a reasonable distance on a charge).

Just like we (and no other country) has the plant to build enough nuclear reactors for tackling climate change. And BP and Shell have given up their wind turbine projects, as have some of the smaller businesses. Britain should be leading the way again like it did in the industrial revolution but the government isn't interested and has left it too late, and the planning lawsare preventing development too.

Seeing as Mandy and Noon have tested an Electric Mini, does this mean all cabinet Ministers will be giving up the Range Rovers and Daimlers.
Electric Mini's are good enough for me and you, so what about them !!!!!!!!!!!!!
No I didn't think so.

They've started again here as well Belle. Straight in the bin.

I've been looking at the Bush lawyer's take on what constitutes torture. I Think BOB is right to say that nobody should be charged for following clear instructions. Leaving aside the stigma on those who did it, what was in the minds of the lawyers? They should all be made to read the Water Babies by Charles Kingsley and take note of 'do as you would be done by'. As soon as we descend to the opposition's level they have won. It's tough but we have to keep the moral high ground. That's where Bush et al lost the plot. In terms of bodies per year I think we killed more than Saddam did. Not much moral authority there!

Please forgive the change of direction......but it grabbed my attention....

I saw a "fish" badge on the back of a car today, that had the word DARWIN inside the "loop".....

What is that all about ?

A christian who doesn't believe in what the bible says about the creation......

....or is it  just where the driver lives....... ? Mmmmm.

Brad, In almost all cases it is meant as derision of Creationists but according to a survey by the university of Georgia some are intended to convey the fact that you can be a Christian and believe in evolution as well. A quite reasonable view is that putting the fish logo on your car is advertising the fact that you support a minority religion in world terms I suppose that if followers of Islam put the star and crescent on their cars that would be seen by some as being aggressive. I wonder why anyone feels the need to advertise their beliefs by sticking a logo on their car.

So the Tomlinson case gets even more murky. A second opinion on the PM has adduced that the cause of death was internal bleeding in the abodmen which may have been caused by the police assault. Still no word of any action against those who wore balaclavas, removed their identity numbers or refused to come forward. That seems to me to be equally reprehensible. There is also the case of the woman, Mrs Fisher who was assaulted. I hope that the investigations don't turn into a whitewash which would make things even more murky.

Not many countries would be holding an inquiry into these goings on. I suppose we should feel a little better that we are appalled at what occured.

In the USA, Obama seems to be unleashing the Environmental Protection Agency from the chains used by Bush to stop it doing its job. The EPA used to be very powerful but when Bush came into power his people began making crafty changes that meant the agency had too little funding and too much political intervention. All to try and keep climate change hidden from the population and let the polluters continue their dirty work.

"derision of Creationists"

Thanks Stanley .....that explanation had completely eluded me .......

Even so , fancy going to the trouble of putting a 2" badge on the back of your car to make a point !

Or any badge for that matter.

RE...IAN TOMLINSON

In an interview yesterday , Ken Livingstone more than hinted that the first pathologist had got "form" in these matters.

He was immediately  derided (that word again!) by a "spokesperson " that Radio 5 Live had wheeled in. But not very convincingly ........ Actually  saying "you can't keep an old conspiracy theorist down....ha ha..!"

It seemed that he (the spokesperson) was trying to highlight the fact that the cause of death was (merely) the subject of  a difference of opinion between the the first pathologist and the second.

It is difficult not to jump to conclusions ( see previous advice).

We shall see what happens (hopefully) .......

Like you Brad I have been perturbed by previous enquiries into matters concerning the Met. It almost seemed like a foregone conclusion that the most that would ever be done is s slap on the hand and careers carried on as before. The shooting of the Brazilian electrician was a case in point. It has always bothered me that whetever the other failings, 8 bullets were pumped into his head without warning according to witnesses. I see that Nick Hardwick, the chairman of the IPPC has called for more and deeper independent investigations and has raised the question of members of the force removing their identity numbers as though they were expecting trouble and were taking steps to make identification more difficult. The new man at the Met Stephenson has a chance here to put down a marker and I hope he takes it.

One thing is certain as things stand, you don't have to be an unreasonable person to smell a rat here.

At about 09.45 this morning during a discussion of newspaper headlines, they somehow got onto the two Cromwells in our history. First, describing Thomas Cromwell as Henry the 8th's `Alastair Campbell with an axe' and then claiming that the poet Milton was Oliver Cromwell's spin doctor because he had the role of `Secretary of Foreign Tongues'.

I find the footage of the policeman hitting the woman demonstrator with a backhanded slap particularly distressing, even more so than the truncheon blow. He looks like a man used to using violence towards women.
