I've always been fascinated by the things people do in their spare time when they can do exactly what they want to do. Men and sheds are a particularly fertile field. Women tend to do their thing in the comfort of the house.
I was delighted to see Andy's picture of the clock movement he has made.
It struck me that we could perhaps start a new topic devoted to spare time skill. So Andy starts it off and my contribution is this:
It's a small steam engine made from scratch and is based on the Stuart 5A but a longer stroke. One of these will drive a 14 foot boat with steam at 250psi. By the way, we don't like to call them models, it's exactly the same construction and materials as a full size engine, just smaller. So come on out there, let's hear about what you make in your spare time. I reckon we could be in for some surprises!

Funny how satisfying a small thing like that can be. It would be stable in a very strong wind! I didn't paint it, the natural finish is very food even though it's gramaphone turning.

The daft thing is that I have had this photo up twice but it has disappeared by the time I look again! I have tried to put it into Pictures but it is timed out even though it is only a small image (I think). Doc will be fed up of trying to hammer this subject home so how about an eBay type of one-click image process Doc - or does it cost a fortune?

I just looked at how you submitted the picture in the above topic and all was correct, the problem lies in the picture itself, it looks like when you view the picture on the other website it's running in whats called a "session", After xxx seconds/minutes this "Session" will expire on the original website, hence you will be able to see the picture on the OGFB website while the session is still active on the other site, but once it has expired the picture won't be visible until another session is opened on the original website.
Some sites use this technique to stop people linking to a particular subject.
You can usually tell when a session is running by a long row of numbers/letters with the picture URL.
Hope this explains it OK, the way you submitted the pic was the correct way, so keep posting pic's (just not one's that run in a session)
Regards

Well, I don't know about anyone else but that one lost me completely! I think the only session involved is the one BJ was in before logging on!

Actually, I think that what may have happened is something that has caught me out. The site had a bit of a glitch about a week ago and did some peculiar things when you were putting pics on. Make sure the pic you want to put up is a JPEG and under 200k. Put it on the site as a normal picture and in the body of the topic make a new paragraph consisting of . Copy the URL of the pic you have put up in the space between the ][ and submit. This should do it and if you haven't succeeded ask Doc to look at it for you.

Steady on Ringless old chap. WM1 from Barrowford can manage all right. Perhaps its more to do with WM 2 and 3 being born Lankies?

Don't shout too loud, it's just refused one of mine. Last time the site went down it did the same thing because when they got it back on the server had set it's picture section to read only. I've mailed Doc, when he gets up at 3pm he'll have a look at it....

Doc, thanks for explaining the 'session'. I uploaded the pic I took to the website provided by my photoware program and then copied it straight to the topic.I'll have to use the normal route whereby the pics are submited to the site and (once they are accepted)copy the url into the reply.Only problem here is that there is a delay of a couple of days which can affect the spontinaity, spontinety, spon... quickness of the reply.
