Welcome to the Earby and District Local History Society
The Earby and District Local History Society was founded in 1995 when six people attended a meeting at New Road Community Centre in Earby.
Membership is now ten times that and still growing. A good proportion of the members are "out of town" members who are either exiled Earbyites or have ancestors connected with the area.
The Society's area of main interest is the Ancient Parish of Thornton-in-Craven and includes Thornton-in-Craven, Earby, Kelbrook, Sough and Harden.
AIMS OF THE SOCIETY To raise awareness and foster an interest in local history and facilitate research into the heritage of Earby and District including Earby, Thornton-in-Craven, Sough, Kelbrook, Harden, Hague and Salterforth.
MONTHLY MEETINGS The Society meets on the third Tuesday of the month at New Road Community Centre, New Road, Earby (unless otherwise announced). Meetings begin at 7-30 and usually include a talk on an historical subject with local interest where possible.
Visitors are very welcome to attend.
Admission is £1 for members and £1-50 for non members including tea and biscuits .
NEWSLETTER The Society produces a quarterly news letter the Earby Chronicles which is free to members and £1-50 to non members.
ARCHIVES The Society is building an archive of local material including books, documents and photographs which are available for research purposes by arrangement.
PROJECTS The Society is also active in local projects including Parish register transcription, recording historic buildings etc.
Note By Doc The Societies Index of it's Archive will soon be appearing on this site, this is Phase 1 of a Joint initiative between the Earby and District Local History Society and the One-Guy Web Team. The aim of the project is to eventually digitise their archive for publishing on the web, making it freely accessible to everyone.

What a splendid development. This is the sort of participation that will ensure that Oneguy survives and prospers. I look forward to seeing the postings. Welcome aboard! Stanley.
