I got mail this morning.....

Hi

I have just been looking at your website regarding the Sagar family from Yorkshire and Barnoldswick. My gt grandfather was Hugh Sagar who to and fro'ed between Burnley and Barnoldswick. I know that 2 of his sons also moved between the 2 towns, i.e. John and Alice Hannah Sagar, and William and his wife. I would be interested ti know if you have any information regarding the Sagar family in Barnoldswick and if any of the Sagar clan still remain there.

Any help would be great

Edna Wilkins (nee Sagar)

Edna,
Best way is through the site as I'm not a genealogist. I'll put your query up there, register and join in, you will than be tapped into the experts.

Best, S.

Hi!

Just registered and nice to meet you all.

Bit late joining in the Sagar discussion - better late than never, I guess.

My great great grandparents were Hugh and Sarah Sagar who moved to Barnoldswick some time around the 1870's.  They and a couple of their offspring stayed. There was George and Emma Sagar whose son Frank was killed in WW1.  I also think their daughter Sarah may have married a Fred Parker.  Wondering if any of their descendants may still live around the Barnoldswick area?

By the way - Hi Edna - we meet again!

Also hello Bernard - on which line do you descend from the Haugh Head Sagars?

Regards.

Hi again!

Thanks for the warm welcome I received.

This Barnoldswick site is proving to be very useful and terrific to look around...accolades:-)

WOW - only been on the site for less than a day and have already received tremendous help in my family research :-)

A big thanks to Gloria and the fabulous site on Briercliffe!  I had recently discovered the Heap side of my family.  My g g g Grandmother having been born in Extwistle.  A lovely Lancs lady recently looked at St Peter's, Burnley records but couldn't find anything to help me...found details on the Briercliffe site - they had been registered in a Baptist chapel!

Brilliant initiative and lots of hard work done by the Briercliffe Society - well done.

Wonder if anyone can suggest how to find any details for Worsthorne?  Now looking at a newly discovered Procte/or side!

Regards from Australia.

Glad you are finding results Mimi.  Don't forget that the reason why we can help so much is because people post their research and share it with others.  You may have some info that could clear someone else's block.......

Hi Bernard.      Sorry not to reply to your e mail from June, have been changing my computer.  I would really appreciate any help on the life of Alice Hannah Ramsbottom who married John Sagar.  Janice from Burnley library has checked the local church for her baptism but to no avail.  There must be somebody out there who is looking into the Ramsbottom family.  All I want to know is did her mother Elizabeth ever marry or did she have Alice out of Wedlock.  That way I would know if Elizabeth was a Ramsbottom or had a maiden name, that way I could research back farther down her line.

Hi Mimi,

I have quite a few Procto/er's in my tree, but centered around the Skipton area.
http://www.kirkbymalham.info/KMI/bordley/procter.html has links to a good site with an inordinate amount of research by Tim.

Hi Stanley,

It appears we are related. My ancestory also goes back to Haughhead via John Sagar (cousin 6 times removed). My Great great grandad's brother was the infamous bigamist, Edmondson Sagar ( Sagar Edmondson). Can you gaive me any in depth history of any other relatives? Do you have any pictures? Would appreciate any info.

Love Liz xx ya-hooGo to Top of Page

Liz, welcome to the site! I'm afraid you have the wrong person, no Sagars in my tree. However, I'm sure many will have seen your post. and will respond.
