I like the food and the atmosphere  there. It is cosy with good food and reasonably priced.

Hi Flutts, I've never been in the Maypole but it always looked an attractive pub - might give it a try when I retire!!

Cath has been involved with a group of friends who meet as a book club. She has recently been to The Alma at Laneshawbridge and says that she found the food there excellent and very good value. She also sampled a curry at the new eating section of The Harpers at Fence and enjoyed that at a very reasonable price.

We are celebrating Charlottes A level success (2A's and a C) and Dan's AS levels (3 B's and 2 C's) with a meal at the Bay Horse at Fence next week. Looking forward to it. Nolic

Thanks Ringo andf Cazza, Charlotte now preparing to jet off to Leeds Uni on 19th September  - has a lovely flat in hall of residence 10 minutes walk from her faculty.

I've given Fat Club a miss of late as they have re-organised and you have to stay for the meeting before getting weighed and  I'm fed up of certain members prattling on all the time and as I'm the only bloke there it gets a bit much.. I'm still being very careful what I eat and getting to the gym and walking a lot.

I'm going to have another blitz to Xmas with the fat club menu's and I'll get the hard word from the dietician if I put any weight on - though she had said I was loosing too much too quickly at one stage. Size wise I've gone form 7XL  to 2 or 3XL dependent on where I get my clothes - usually Tesco as they are cheap for if they grow out of me.

Apart from an ocaissional imbibe I'm almost Tee total and hardly missing drink at all.  Nolic

We had a great meal at the Maypole a few weeks back, a very popular place (www.maypole.co.uk - hope that isn't considered as advertising, I have no connection).
Last time we went to the Bay Horse I thought it had got very expensive for what it was.
I see the Fanny Grey has won a Les Routiers plaque.  They deserve it.  The head chef used to work at the Angel at Hetton which has a very good reputation.

I had the pleasure, just recently of having a drink, and meeting the new manager of the New Inn, at Foulridge, this chap is here for the duration, and looks to have turned this lovely village pub round to a good local again. With an excellent choice of beers, and extremely well priced menu, and a more than pleasant Landlord, it is well woth a visit.

We are going with friends to the new pub opened in Barrow, ( near Whalley) by Kevin Berkins - the owner of Fence Gate - on Friday, will report what it is like.

Went to The Eagle - it was absolutly heaving.  I was not impressed with the pricey meal and the service was atrocious.  Our starters were cold as if they had been out waiting to be collected.  They asked us to sit at the table at 8pm and we had to ask the wine waiter to get someone to take our order at 8.45pm.  They did give us free coffees and knocked a couple of drinks off the bill after we had complained.  Don't think we will bother again - it is expensive too.
