I am not referring to belief systems Tizer...democracy and Sharia law are not exactly synonymous.

The last inadvertent explosion I caused was a while ago. There's a well known cunning wheeze for getting a bush out of a blind housing. You make a close fitting plug fo the bore of the bush, put some viscous fluid like grease in, pop the plug in and give it a good thump with a big hammer. The hydraulic pressure generated acts on the bottom edge of the bush and usually shifts it. I was doing this on a very small scale, used the first thick oil I had to hand and when I hit it it brought the bush out OK but blew the plug out as well. I must have got the pressure high enough to promote burning of the oil! Job done but a splatter of oil and a small dent on the plaster ceiling!

I don't know enough about Sharia Law to comment.

I am struck by the arguments over the protest at St Paul's. Can't help remembering my Bible teaching at Wycliffe Sunday School seventy years ago, I seem to remember Jesus throwing money lenders out of the Temple.

Belle, the word `belief' to me doesn't mean just religious belief. It's what people believe in, including politics, morality, ethics etc.

Looking  at the list of news stories on the BBC site today I saw
"Saddam's bronze buttock fails to sell at auction"
and thought `surprise, surprise!'...then saw
"Directors' pay 'up 50% in year'"
and, guess what, I thought `surprise, surprise!

Just to think ....If you'd done that in the 19th C we'd all be driving round in Graham powered cars now....(not Diesel )

Sharia Law and democracy can't mix, any more than The Papal State and democracy couldn't mix 150 years ago. Watch or listen to a performance of Tosca.

cheers,

From BBC web site...

"A judge has told a farmer who parked a trailer on a rail line which was hit by a train he was "incredibly stupid"."

"John Watkyn-James, 51, from Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire had admitted endangering safety on a railway at an earlier hearing at Swansea Crown Court. Sentencing him to a 36-week suspended jail sentence, the judge said he had put the train, staff and passengers at risk when he parked to feed horses. The Manchester to Milford Haven train was damaged but no-one was injured. The farmer from Kidwelly must also carry out 200 hours community work."

Why would he want to park a trailer on a damaged railway line?

The old argument about extending BST. Why can't they leave it alone? Nobody thinks about places in the north and dark winter mornings.

Flu jab this morning. NHS is wonderful.....

I tripped over this pic this morning while looking for one to go with an article. Blackpool in 1981. Question is, would I dare do this pic in the present enlightened times?

Had my flu jab in the first week ya-hoo

Why does the country need a Law to tell people when to get up? If it was competitively advantageous to change working hours then companies would, or are we saying it takes an Act of Parliament to make the State more accomodating to flexibility?

Had my flu jab 2 hours ago and I'm feeling......aaaarghhh! ... (only joking!)

I know what you mean by the `damaged raliway line' comment Stanley. The text was copied from the BBC's news site for `mobile devices' where everything is written as one-liners and some of them are ambiguous or just silly!

Also what you mean about the pic. We passed through Okehampton  a few weeks ago and they were having their children's carnival parade. It was great fun, colourful and very photogenic so I took a number of snaps - it was only afterwards that I thought how I might have been grabbed by the police or parents. Fortunately the Dartmoor town is a bit more sensible about such things than the big cities. Mind you, a builder in Launceston got angry with me because I took a photo of old buildings and he happened to be working on one (though he wasn't even in the picture when I took it). I wonder what he had to hide?

Surfing newspapers/International press etc. it struck me what a wishy- washy lot of so-called 'leaders' we have  on the world stage nowadays. Obama, Cameron & Clegg, the poisonous dwarfs Sarkozy and Berlusconi, Angela Merkel, Medvedev et al.  I don't even know nowadays who is leading India or China, or South Africa, because they are such insignificant personalities.

Where are the Thatchers, the Reagans, the Gorbachovs, Mandelas, Nehrus and Ghandis, Maos and Titos, Helmut Kohls and Willie Brandts, Giscard D'Estaings or Mitterands, of former times??

cheers,

cloggy

Cloggy, dead or dying!

Sorry about that Tiz, couldn't help it!

Got caught out by the clock change, slept six hours and woke up. No point going back to bed! Had flu jab yesterday, in and out with no hold-up, very efficient.
