Just to let everyone know about this one, I have not seen any publicity about it myself.

The new Reedley Boat Marina opens next weekend Sat 13th Sept, starting at 12:00, goes on till 5:00pm.

This is the first big new private investment in the L&L canal for many years, and should help greatly with the Tourism Developement drive the Council are running.

This should be a great family day out, after the opening ceremony by the Mayor of Pendle
( the marina is in Pendle, despite the Burnley address ! )  entertainment for the afternoon includes Nelson Brass Band, Mark Waddington Magic, and our Band, The Twisted Reel Band.

The marina itself is awesome, and the boats well worth a look round. ( It took a month just to fill it with water, it is so big the canal would have emptied if they had let it all in at once! )

Location is at the rear of Barden Mill, Barden Lane, Burnley.

The Mill itself is a great place to look round for the shopaholics, and the afternoon should  have something for everyone to enjoy, hopefully including sunshine !

Andy.

One thing about the cut we often forget.  Apart from transport it's a very efficient flood control measure.  The water from county Brook goes into the canal apart from what is diverted and allowed to go on its way down into Salterforth Bottoms.  If all the water was allowed to go down there Lane Ends at Earby would be flooded much more than it is.  Once in the canal it gets away via the spillways at Greenberfield and from there flows west into the system that runs through Bracewell and eventually into the Ribble.  If it went to Earby it would go east into the Aire.  Good illustration of living on a watershed.

I notice there are major works going on up at Whitemoor reservoir. Not sure what it is but it looks as if it is something to do with the overflow system for the reservoir. The signs on the site refer to canal infrastructure work. Anyone know more?

One way of helping to get rid of a lot of top water perhaps? The canal system is a good drainage system, self regulating with the overflows. All downhill both ways from the top length at Barlick. Would make sense.
