Sometime around the 7th of April, my son Steve and I will be rolling into Barnoldswick on a bus from Manchester, I think.  We're mainly coming to walk the same streets as our ancestors did as recently as 1880.  However, I will be carrying a little Kenwood THF6A 2 meter, 220 and 440 MHz radio with me and would enjoy talking to or meeting some of the local hams.  Would have brought the HF station but it wouldn't have made it through security!.  If any of you could recommend a repeater or simplex frequency, we would appreciate that.  I can also be reached at k8dxx@sbcglobal.net.  Thanks and best 73 de Bill / K8DXX

Imindoors says go to ukrepeater website. They have an entire UK repeater list. (As the title would suggest!)

iT'S A SUB-CULTURE.....  I remember going to see a wealthy ham after the war and being amazed that he could talk to people all over the world.  Quality was lousy of course but in those simple days it was a miracle.

We were only saying so much last night Stanley. Imindoors has always been really into it and used to be amazed out the people he would talk to and their locations. Now, with mobile phones, we take it very much for granted.

Isn't it illegal to skype your children, or is that only in Scotland? (what does it actually mean?)

Skype is a form of contact Belle. A bit like MSN but loads better, you can actually make calls to other skype users through your computer for free assuming you're already on the net. You can also buy skype phones and credit these days.

in Scotland belle we don`t skype the children, we "skelp" them, i know for i have had a few skelpings myself, the word is possibly scandinavian, it is the art of a parent teaching a young person not to misbehave, if you had a skelped behind then you knew about it .....
