20 replies, and 624 people have read my last request, but I am still looking. Will 2006 be the year when I find out what happened to my great grandfather,  John Roberts Widdup and possibly my grandfather Wilfred Widdup Marriott. To those who haven't read my requests before ( and there must be some of you out there) here is a summary

John Roberts Widdup born  in Barlick July 1870

Parents : Thomas Widdup ( Barlick 1850)  and Annice Horsfield ( Foulridge 1850)

Siblings: All of Barlick. Ernest Widdup,( died Australia)  Robert Widdup,( died Australia) Sarah Ellen Widdup ( Died in Boston ), Elizabeth Mary Widdup ( Died in Menston, after a number of years with her sister in Boston, buried at Barlick,)  Smith Widdup ( buried in Barlick) . I have traced the descendants of all of these traced except Smith who I believe married Maria ?. I think Smith and Maria were the only members of the family to remain in Barlick . There is amemorial cross to the family members in St Mary The Ghyll Church ( photo on this site)

Background: Cotton weaver ( Barlick 1880-1890), Clerk and  bookmaker Burnley (1890 -1896)  Foreign correspondance clerk ( Armley Leeds 1896-?). Politically active in the SDF in Barlick, Nelson , Colne, Burnley ( particularly) and surrounding areas, Salford, London, Dewsbury, Wigan and Armley Leeds. ( 1893-1898). Editor of a local political newspaper, writer of  several Socialist  educational pamphlets. Emigrated to Canada 1898, last recorded existence 1901 census in Sherbrooke Quebec Canada. He was living with his wife Emily and two sons Harry ( born Sherbrooke 1899)  Percy ( born Sherbrooke 1900 died Vancouver 1968 after living in Shanghai for about 25 years in the 1920s to 1947)

Wilfred Widdup Marriott born Armley September 1896 ( My grandfather) Brought up in Brierfield from circa 1898, by his mother  Elizabeth Ann Marriott. Married in 1915, disappeared in 1923. Never been seen or heard of since. He was in the mercahnt navy, and worked as a purser on either the White Star line or P&O, on the Newcastle to Southampton to New York routes

Can anyone help. Do any of these names mean anything to anyone.
