After numerous complaints from numerous members I have decided to ban the members Frank Wilkinson and Herb from the site.

They have flagrantly abused the site rules and it will not be tolerated.

I see Doc as being caught between a rock and a hard place, and it is not easy making a judgement when your heels are being snapped at, I have also had something similar to this:-

After numerous complaints from numerous members;
Attached to something of mine a couple of years ago
which was then removed, or "blacked".
Both Herb and Frank have had successful careers and have travelled extensively, neither of them are "Yes Men".  Gus is right, political exchanges can be a minefield, give and take is how its supposed to be, and if you are going to give, you have to be prepared for what follows, however difficult. A "spat" can turn unpleasant, so many things may go wrong and with politics in the mix, the list is endless. We all have different takes on different views, that is what makes us what we are. I have some very strong views on certain matters, which if I were to air on here would have several members "Throwing their toys out of the pram" and me probably joining Herb and Frank, but not yet. Oh by the way, earlier I employed what in the Navy is called, "Lost contact procedure" it worked, I now have both sides of the coin, and so I can tell you that no abusive or derogatory comments have been made on what has happened here, and I quote, "Oh dear what will I do now"!!

Well nothing either of them said offended me, but then again, I am not a political animal and I understood (that as a 'foriegner') I had no right to comment on your poiltics.
I do find that many of the topics on OG are so 'local' that I cannot join in the discussion. I am sure Cathy feels the same. Not that we expect it to be any different than local....after all....that is why we joined OG...to keep in touch with our roots.
I love to find lively discussions with various view points offered. I would hate to see OG evolve into a site that is so sickly pleasant and politically correct that people don't express heartfelt views in case they upset or shock someone. I come on here for interaction.

For Doc to have banned them, I naturally assume they must have both stepped way over the line. I'm dying to know what really happened, purely in the interests of being able to form a balanced opinion...

I too would like to know what they both done, I know the debate was getting a bit out of hand.
In the not too recent past have similar forums not been blocked as a whole, to give the participants a cooling off period ?

I was on holiday and missed it all. But then that's the story of my life. When I worked in companies I would go away, come back, and find the whole management structure had changed or our office or lab was in a different building. People used to say when I went on holiday it was a sign of impending change.

But could Frank and Herb simply gain member access again to OG by registering under a different username and user details? They might have to do it from a different computer (i.e.different IP address) but how would any of us know unless they revealed themselves by some characteriistic comments? (Frank probably wouldn't mind me saying his comments would be a giveaway!). They would only need to go into their local library, or internet cafe, or use a friend's PC...or am I missing something?

Maz, it's not all politics on here...I didn't seen you or Cath contribute to the Great Brazilian Knicker issue, albeit hidden in the Quote of the Day thread!

I received a mail two days ago from one of the "offenders", this contained a list of those whom he held in high regard, it gives me great pleasure to put to you that all of today's posters are on that list.

Cathy, I definitely agree about the better looks, though I'm not qualified to judge on the matter of comfort - but I imagine G strings must be a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps that's why some women have a strained look on their face!

Back to the topic: if I'm not mistaken, someone else who was banned a while back has just started posting again. Or maybe this member wasn't banned, but just took off in a huff. Or maybe just politely asked to leave?

Interesting...

Heather, he was never banned and didn't take off in a huff. He had personal reasons.

Street-cleaning report. I zapped two members and three topics yesterday morning. Seven bogus registrations this morning. And no, they weren't asked to reform. We are under attack at the moment from multiple mischevious registrations.

I will say that I don't think there is anything private about private messages....
