Questions about this subject keep cropping up amid closely related topics, so I thought it may be a good idea to expand on the subject. I will not go on about my qualifications to discuss Canal Boats so lets just give it a go and see what transpires.

I have noticed that the last few pictures I have put up have appeared in the new picture section quite rapidly (within about 5 mins or so) whether this is Doc furtling in the background or not I don't know. Anyway when I put the series of my Dads ink drawings up, the first ones were in the new pic section before I had finished uploading the last ones, if this makes sense. An improvement if you can't grab the URL but still not fully functional from your point of view Cally, must be very frustrating.

I was looking forward to the "Changing Rooms" series.

Oh and by the way, less of the grumpy OLD women thing, 50,ish isn't old. You are allowed to be grumpy by all means but save OLD for further down the line (or the cut, as may be).

When is the maiden voyage? or should I say, when are the maidens voyaging. I feel like riding my motorbike and will have a bit of spare time this week. I could lend a hand swinging the locks if required. You will have a bit of a steep climb to get on the "top length". (good job you're not t'uther side of Bingley), my back decided to rebel on New Years Eve when I had to access my toolbox to fix a leaky kitchen tap. Should be mended up by tomorrow or Thursday, a bit of gentle excercise might be just the ticket.

It will be either Doc Stanley Another or me as we can all approve pictures

Appears to work.  You need a '/' in there.

I've always used by own hosting for pictures, the stilted interface and lottery of putting them here was always a source of irritation.  Can't beat drag and drop and I get to call the URL, not some dumb machine.

Just putting files/pictures/2/2/20080101125017_49_1_rs.JPG in the URL box produced an image for me........

Wonder of wonders, suddenly it DOES work. I think the little image pixie has been hard at work behind the scenes - just to shut me up and make me look like an idiot!lolol

No - in actual fact what happens is that there is a space before the URL which gets copied and pasted in - you don't need http etc, just find the space and delete it.

OK - here's a rather blurry shot taken by E, of me in the saloon of the boat, while accessing OGFB:

Blurry boat - well it WAS New Year's Eve...

And here's the Captain's Dog:

Boo in corridor aboard Frabjous Day

And now that E has discovered the flash on the camera, here's a pic of the stove:

I see from the paper the 102 boat marina at Barden Mill has been passed.  It is to be known as Reedley Marina

I read that the new marina is to be called Reedley Hallows - sounds like something out of Harry Potter.

As for the poo emptying - thankfully a big strapping lad does that for you. Just as well because I can imagine the chaos (not to mention pong) if E and me were to attempt it and let go of the pipe... Red faces all round. Or should that be "brown" faces all round. Or even faeces. Ahem. Moving swiftly along...

Yes Plug - we have a 'care of' address. This has caused a malfunction in the brain of the person at Pendle Borough Council who deals with Council tax. She hasn't been programmed to deal with this situation. I told her not to cancel Mum's single occupancy rebate as we weren't living there.

Prove it, she said.

How? I asked.

Send in a utility bill from the address where you do live - gas, electric, phone, water...

Um, we're moving about on the L&L so we don't have any utilities.

Don't you pay the British Waterways licence?

Yes of course.

Well that will do.

But our address is the c/o one - at my mother's...

Do you still have to pay Council Tax? If so which council do you pay it too as you are moving about all the time?

Good question, Ringo. Very good question.

Bit of a grey area, actually, but basically if you're what's called a Continuous Cruiser (ie no permanent mooring, moving at least every 2 weeks, and at least as far as the next parish boundary) then no, you don't pay council tax. Neither can you vote, of course.

However, if you have a permanent mooring, whether private or British waterways, then yes you do - usually in Band A. Some marinas include it in their fees, others you pay direct to the council. Your address is the marina's.

Our problem is that we do have a c/o address (for the business, banks, driving licence etc) but no permanent residence as yet. This is what has flummoxed PBC. I'm keen to keep everything above board and legit and certainly wouldn't want to avoid paying council tax because although we wouldn't have our bins emptied, we would benefit from the police, libraries, schools and street lighting, etc.Go to Top of Page

Before I start bidding on eBay, has anyone got a 40 litre Aquaroll they want to sell?

We reckon it'd be a smart move for us to have a means of getting water quickly and easily in case we weren't in a position to move the boat to a waterpoint (eg 11pm when the tank runs dry...)Go to Top of Page
