Hi all, just to say that after a bit of a delay, my book "Steeplejack Origins" has been republished as a second edition, available again from Lulu.com. Also, i'me well under way with my second book, about my own time as a Jack, should be published in a few months.

Yep , that was definitely Burnsall , Ian , and I have a feeling that some of the earlier town/mill scenes were Elland....The football ground looked like the Shay in Halifax....Great Film ...Thanks Bodge !

Colly, make sure you let us know and I'll be in there! Not going to get the second edition though, I've spent too much on books lately. I've had to cut back to one bottle of single malt a week. A serious matter!

Hi Tom, i have just shown the article (not "that" one) to my wife and she recalls it from her school days, but i'm afraid she did'nt read and inwardly digest, i had to put a Asprin dispenser on the headboard fror the headaches

Tom. Brilliant! Absolutely typical of the orthodox view of the role of women at that time. I was married in 1959 and I'm afraid that as far as we were concerned the author was way behind the times in our case!

Tom, is the good lady in the photo inviting her husband to take part in one of the "more unusual practices"? I'm not quite sure what happens when she pulls the string and the gadget behind her looks daunting. Perhaps the book was a special edition for Yorkshire?

A cavity wall chimney design http://books.google.ie/books?id=RQUIAAAAIAAJ&dq=factory%20chimney%20construction&pg=PA123#v=onepage&q=factory%20chimney%20construction&f=true
A query, when building a chimney and you reach the point of fitting the "coping" around the top, i can appreciate that when the ring is complete it will sit on the top with gravity and mortar with links between each stone, but how do you secure the individual stones on top whilst lifting the remaining ones, are they designed to sit via gravity, in many cases they appear to be over balanced to the outside of the stack ?

The stones are made to sit on the brickwork without over balancing and tipping off,a lot of big heads are made up of several courses of stone that get wider ,each course is cramped before the next is added, then blocking stones/brickwork is added.....hope that makes sence Bodge !!!

Bodge, the reason why Peter and Tom put the drum back on the oversiller at Ellenroad (it had been taken off) was that without the balancing weight on the back of the cantilever stones that form the oversail, they were trying to move out. They aren't going anywhere now!
