My mother Joan Spencer (nee Hillary) was born at the white house, Roughlee) in 1922. Her parents Gertrude and George had a sweetshop and, in the summer, a tea garden at the side of the house. George Hillary was a self-styled professor of astrology. They were friends of the Wain family, who ran the amusements park opposite. Does anyone remember the name "Hillary" or "Wain".
