Appreciation of art is down to individual taste. I think Bill's railway painitngs are masterpieces of what I would call draughtsmanship and I would love one on my wall. By the same token I like less structured and in arty terms "loose" work. So at home we vary from mid 19th century detailed military prints, through good old LS Lowry to some quite avant gard French prints that we picked up as postcards in the Vendee.
I like the French impressionists and we have a couple of Monet prints and I think he is about my favourite artist. I do also like the American Edward Hoppers' paintings which in a way are a bit like LS L and evoke a feeling of times gone by.
Keep posting Suze, we all like your stuff. Nolic

Lovely place Frank, with a very nice zoo that is well worth a visit. I could happily live there if I had the money. Nolic

Brilliant paintings Hobbo, the only painting ive been doing is the bedroom walls,,but as i started i found 2 signed prints i'd forgotten i had by Larry Rushton from Blackpool, this one is called "Clown"its a self potrait he did when he was in prison,it was painted on his cell door and carefully removed when he had served his time,it was while he was inside he discovered his amazing talent, not just as an artist but an escapologist,he escaped from Dartmoor after being there for just 20 minuites....
Click to see bigger picture....Apologies for the poor photography,it is friday after all,,its a bit hazy and i chopped the bottom off the painting,he's sat in the middle of a clockface and there's a small bird that he's feeding.

I like the mill. (I like the other pics as well but have a connection with Hardmans as they owned Spring Vale when I did the LTP) I was just thinking, the reason why there are more painings of spinning mills is probably because they are so high and imposing. Apart from the warehouse block, weaving sheds lie half buried in the landscape.

Of course being French there are no names . I am the one on the left in orange. The pictures were good. Many of the artists are complete beginners. The class is conducted in English and French The pictures in this link are not the ones in the exhibition
Another good link, if you can cope with the french language is http://h2oencouleurs.blog4ever.com/blog/index-193657.html Sue

The second picture is a classic french line up. The local french paper always lines up people in photos, no action shots!. It was funny to see the group assemble. They all immediately knew how to form the group photo
Sue or should I say a Bonny Brit
