Not a pair of gloves or hand cleaner in sight. I did this, this morning at the U3A Art group that Wendy runs.

I know the mouth is a funny shape but otherwise I am quite pleased with this as I could never draw animals of any sort. Last time I tried a cat it looked like a RAT!!

Sue, My attitude is that if the sink and the lavatory are spotless and the washing is done all is well with the world!

Its alright on mine Stanley, but when I can't get pictures I get a white square and red cross. If I go through Yahoo instaed of orange, for some reason I pick the picture up again

The cat has been improved , I have softened the side of his nose so it blends better. ( Or should I say her cos you can't get tortoise shell males)

The ratio is actually about 3:1 in favour of the males, here is one of the exceptions, Primrose.

Ginger Cat

It is also possible to have a male calico (tortoiseshell) cat. It is exceptionally rare and would require a mutated gene or triple chromasomes which would render the cat sterile but it does happen on occasion.

There is an explanation of the genetics involved here in this Askpedia Article.

Am I forgetting my genetics, its along time since I taught it. !Yes Ginger cats are males, as it is due to the position of the gene for colour, it is on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes and males only one. As females have two X chromosomes they can carry two forms ( allelles) of the gene hence both ginger and tabby to give tortoise shell, but males can only carry the Ginger  gene or the tabby , or both ginger or both tabby. However and I may be mistaken here there is a  a reduced ability to survive when two ginger genes are carried, ie a higher chance of non survival of the male embryo before birth. I may be mistaken here as it may be a different gene that is lethal in this manner

From wikepedia. As you can see I got the wrong lethal gene, but it is over 20 years since I taught it

The Manx tail-less gene is dominant and highly penetrant; kittens from Manx parents are generally born without any tail. Having two copies of the gene is semi-lethal and kittens are usually spontaneously aborted before birth.[1][2] This means that tail-less cats can carry only one copy of the gene. Because of the danger of having two copies of the tail-less gene, breeders have to be careful about breeding two tail-less Manxes together.[3]
