Here's a mystery for you. There isn't an answer yet because I don't know what it is. Here are two pics:
It's some sort of a gauge, made by A G Parker of 69 Icknield Street, Birmingham and on the front is engraved what I believe is the owner's name; Captain J H Square of Kingsbridge. I've put one or two enquiries out and am waiting to hear from them. I think it might be something to do with Guns because I have an idea that A G Parker was one of the founders of Parker-Hale, a company that specialised in gun sights and accessories. Has anyone ever seen anything like it?

Doc hs been working on it and has found something. I've been too busy writing articles for the paper, I have to get a stock pile in there so I can do other things.

I followed up Doc's lead, mailed Parker Hale and got a reply this morning. They don't know what it is...... I shall keep digging!

I got on to the NRA (UK) and received this reply this morning:
What you have there is a device for marking the windage on to vernier sights. They used to be supplied with elevation marked on them but not wind. The part sitting at right angles would be aligned with the left hand side of the sights & then you wound it across & marked the scale plate.

Device for de-stoning Cherries and Olives , and a wine cork extracter .....
All part of a Sommeliers kit ....The flat on the inside of the cork puller's handle forms a "blade" for cutting the foil around bottle top.

Top one is very similar to an eylet crimper, although having a finish in what looks like stainless or chrome plate. They could be medical or veterinary impliments maybe. The handle on the top one look to have a lock mechanism as well to fasten when shut.

Brad has evidently led a life of conspicuous consumption. He has got both spot on. It was a sommelier that gave me the wine cork puller. Advantage is it never damages a cork. And yes, a cherry-pitter. Saw it in the US and couldn't resist it!

Why does American design scream AMERICA ?...I nearly mentioned it .
I'm thinking of the Airstream Caravan and the Halliburton Suitcase...
As to the latest photos , I have the feeling that the first object may be to do with chains ...and the second ..mmmm... seen 'em somewhere before , but can't recall where !....
