As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

CRAZY insurance prices, not all of us young lads are idiots and show offs behind the wheel. but i suppose they dont know that im not one of them just starting to print off photos for my next commission of jon bon jovi. not a great quailty reference photograph as it doesnt have high pixels but i will do my best with what i have. so updates over the next week...

It is the idiots and the insurance fraudsters who bump up the prices for all of us.

do you know moh the cheapest quote i have had on a 1.0 car. 3rd party fire and theift is £2400 (in my own name) and it makes no difference if the car is worth a £500 or £5000. it just doesnt make any sence to me

Not sure if it's any help Conor, but look up Adrian Flux Insurance on Google they might be able to offer something cheaper......

Someone somewhere is doing insurance based on a young person's worth and character. If there isn't there should be because there's a niche market out there waiting to be exploited.

DOO DO DO DO !...... I met Adrian many years ago when he drove a Formula 3 car sponsored by Ockley Construction (a firm that my sister-in-law worked for as accountant)...He was a nice guy...Much later it turned out that he'd "gone into " classic and specialist car insurance and I think he's done pretty well...
I've had my car insured by them for some time , and they are very efficient , not expensive , and I sort of feel a connection.

Conor that is ridiculous - it appears they are trying to keep young people off the road (good job in some cases but not the majority).
Wonder what it costs in New Zealand, they can drive at 15 out there.

".. it makes no difference if the car is worth a £500 or £5000. it just doesn't make any sense to me". - Conor, the reason is that you can kill as many people and do as much damage with a £500 car as with a £5000 car (perhaps even more if it isn't looked after). Insurance used to be based on risk but the companies don't want to take any risk these days. Someday the government will have to force them back into taking risks, just like it will need to force the banks to lend money again.

Problem is with most insureres you are still classed as a liability or a nutter until you are 25. My youngest son Jack is still falling foul of this and has just been quoted telephone book numbers for renewal despite over 6 years on the road with no claims. Banning miscreants would not nescessarily work for some as they don't bother about licences or insurance. It's a mess that unfortunateley everyone has to pay for. I simpathyse with you position Connor. I am enjoying your work, unfortunately you will need more commissions though to feed the car!

Not all rich widows are old, Conty, but that's not the best route to go down just to get a car. Even if you did get a car and insurance you would probably have to spend all day going where she wanted to go...nah on yer bike..it's the only answer!
