As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

Speaking as a bloke with a 29" inside leg measurement, 36" sounds like a deformity to me! Good luck in the Dennet Trophy and don't stay up so late! You're still growing and need your sleep.

Melanie, they tell me it's a good read... I am scanning pics to go with Vol II at the moment, extremely boring but essential!

You have darkened down the hair and added a lot more detail to the collar and jumper at the left hand side, that's what a cursory glance tells me...i could go back and have a serious study, but I prefer to view the sum of the parts..something you are very good at...I often find when I begin to look at detail I end up with everything on the front plane of the picture..something you manage very cleverly to avoid, I love your work but it is nearly envy!!!!

as to the competition today i was really rubbish!!! (3rd) so thats what you get for going on holiday and miss training!! not to worry i will get back on form

Coming 3rd isn't rubbish! I spotted the shoulder and can see the overall difference. I think it's wonderful. I have the advantage of the original on the wall for camparison, no good looking in the mirror. One thing struck me yesterday, I have always been accused of not smiling much but this is wrong, the construction of my face and lips is such that I have very thin lips and never show my teeth. What you are seeing in the pic is actually quite a bright smile for me!

Another thing I have noticed is that your spelling has improved when you're posting! Now all you have to do is work on the capitals! We are working our magic on you!

i don't bother much with capitals, and have to go back and put them in so as not to offend those who feel their name must have one! there is something somewhere on the word processing side of the pc that allows you to fix the i as a capital in the right context, so that it automatically comes up when you type it, but try as i might ican't find it. funny thing is I do alaways put the shift lock down but my motor skills are such that things are not always sequenced well enough for the shift lock to actually influence the letter.. I quite often type all the letters in a word out fo sequence..nothing to do with my spelling..it's my poor motor skill affecting my typing..it has really slowed down the book I am writing..but I press on..peopel keep saying get someone else to type it but I can't bring myself to.
Don't listen to him conty, except the bit about coming third not being a failure..that I agree with..steady with that perfectionism...it can dirve you loopy!!!!

Belle, it's not your motor skills at fault, you are just getting excited and typing too fast! It happens to me - I start to get the letters out of sequence and it becomes a case of more haste less speed.

Please make sure you sign it for me so my kids can sell it for a fortune when you are famous! Also, one other thing, when you frame it do a short description of how you came to do the drawing and stick it on the back when it's been framed. In 100 years it will be so good for people to know something of its genesis. I have one of Edna Lumb's paintings and she always did that and told me that whenever I got an original from the artist I should ask for it because it adds to the information in the pic. Look her up, she was pretty impressive. Looking forwards to it..... Have warned the IMF that I shall be calling down a loan.

Oh, one other thing. How about doing a really good scan of it so that I can have an image file that does justice to your work when I use the pic or mail it to my family and friends. Too late once it is framed and pics through glass never do the subject justice. Besides, we need to advertise your skills!

right we may have a problem as i dont have a scanner!!! but i will get mum to get the framer to scan it for us as he has been scanning my work in case i ever need to get a good copy, so im guessing he will be able to scan it and attach the scan to an email for me, but dont worry i will do my best.
i also always sign all of my work, but never sign it untill i have finished, its not signed yet as i worked on it this morning but i can see a few things that i want to perfect before i say im finished. but it will be signed. and i will put something on the back for you but dont expect an essay!!!!

The other thing dont panic yet about getting the money out as i am not planning on posting it untill about 20th september. you know i said about thr artist 303 competition im planning on putting stanley in that. as there is prize money to be won and also ive already had a mention in the newspaper as being the youngest entry. so if i get anywhere in the comp stanley might even be photographed for the newspaper, if thats the case i will also get a newspaper for you and post, i hope you dont mind me entering it but i havent done my 3rd drawing for the comp so i really need stanley just for a few weeks more

as to the drawing as soon as its finished and signed i will take a great photo (hopefully) and post it here. got to rush im off training now
