I don't think the one I did tonight will see the gallery of OGFB. Because the Dr doubled some of my medication today I was shaking and made a right mess. Mind you less pain!!!!

Well, thanks to all your advice and encouragement I have taken the plunge and purchased some paints, brushes and other bits and bobs!!
Once I have produced something, I shhould really appreciate your comments
Is it permissible to paint watercolour using an easel or should the paper be flat down?

Sue, I love your latest picture, the winter watercolour, I am no expert but I know what I like and this one fits the bill. Very moody and captures the cold wintery scene very well.

The board should be flat or raised just slightly. I rest mine on a reel of masking tape.. If you are doing wet on wet and it is raised too far the paints may mix more than you want them too
Thank you all for the kind comments about my wintry scene. I just think it is amazing what you can do with just two colours

Bloks, get a decent sized board and using masking tape tape your paper to the board. I use a couple of rubber doorstops under my baord that angle it just right and stop it from slipping. Easels are not a necessity, I do have a cheap one but I rarely use it. Nolic

what good artists we have on this site!all very good.
I love that sepia effect it gives it the right feeling, you know how a
a very dark deep snow clouded day feels...,and the clouds take on that grey sepia color when they are really heavy .

I have got three pics as far as the front page, an Acrylic, a pastel , and a water colour, but I connot for the life of me remember what I press to find their URL...which i know i have to copy and paste in to the pic bit on this answer box if i want to post them in this topic. ...i know you have all told me what to do before, but can i have a repeat of the instructions, for one dosey eejit!

Click on image,then right click on image,click properties,copy url to wordpad/notepad or the like,then paste the url into the insert image bit...

I took a bit of a short cut. When you first finish posting your picture you gat a confirmation, name of picture, any comments you made etc PLUS the URL. I just copied the URL at that point, opened up the thread where I wanted to post it. Wrote my little bit and then pressed insert at the right place. There you have it, just paste the URL in there

Thanks Tom, you are a steeplejack and a gentlrman, no that can't be right, well thanks anyway! will be able to remember where to find the instructions after this as the title of this post is easy for me to associate with.
Yes sue I cottoned on to that short cut but the URL dissappeared just as i was about to copy it!
Blokie I put these pics on mainly for you to see some of the differences between pastel, top one, acrylic, middle one, and water colour, bottom one. As you can see i break most of the rules when i use water colour...Sue's way of doing it is by far the most recognised one with washes etc. But as Flutterby says, there are no rules, so just go and enjoy...
Sue would you mind if I used the lovely monochrome pic you've just put up , as inspiration for one of my own?

Great paintings. Belle, inspiration is what I need.
What I am beginning to realise is that there are no set rules and to experiment and practise.
I dabbled with acrylics a few years ago, reasonable results, but realise now that I was putting the paint on too thick.
Am off to get some watercolour paper this morning and a couple more brushes then away we go!!
Sue,thats a superb painting, love that sepia effect, tell me again the colours used. Is it from a photo or just imaginary?
