New topic intended for posting examples of all artwork.  Please post your pics here, even the ones that are in other topics.  It makes it easier for everyone to find the wonderful stuff you have already posted.

Looks good to me Rob.  Main thing about it that I like is that it was painted by you.......

I think that's the point Tom.  Too many people look at a painting and expect a photograph.  The art critics, being superior beings, refer to this sort of art as 'naive school'.  What they actually mean is 'amateur'.  This misses the point, the pic is me and an engine through Rob'e eyes and that is its value.  Bugger the critics.

Spot on Comrade. Painting  is not about photographic reproduction - camera's do that. far better than artists.  Artistic license means you interpret what you see and if something doesn't fit ( or is too difficult to paint ) then leave it out. Ever see electric pylons  in landscapes ? Nolic

I agree entirely, as I hold a Class One Artistic Licence.... I think, as in many walks of life that formal training can very often stifle that creative streak that we all have....

Its a skill to be able to do that. I struggle with this looseness. My style seems to want to COPY and I think that is because of my background. I am trying to develop a different style, my inner self but it is difficult

Sue, I know what you mean. If I try to draw something I have to copy it because I don't have pictures in my brain. Sitting with a picture on the desk alongside my sheet of paper allows me to copy - but that's all that comes out, a copy. I think that artists absorb a scene and it becomes processed into a picture in their brain which they then put on paper. But each artist would produce a different picture from the same scene. I don't have that intermediate stage of the "brain picture" so the original simply gets copied as best as I can manage. Of course, what you call copying and what I mean by it are rather different - I think you mean yours is an artistic picture that might have more element of "copy" in it than some other artists, whereas mine is just output from a bionic photocopier!

Tiz I too have been the photocopier, but I think my Art lessons have removed some of that

Stanley, art critics should be lined up at a wall with food critics, lots of people eat crap they dont like because food critics tell them its very good and the chef as a star.....I find it difficult to draw something that is in my head,it just gets mushed up with all the other rubbish thats in there, the picture could be quite alarming,a phsyciatrist would have a field day with it,hehe..

If I did a picture from my head I would either do a complex pattern or a mountain/ lake view

Apparently, Rolf Harris used to live in Barlick in the late seventies, I am reliably informed by Tom that David Baddiel also lived there....
