Reports from the Audit committee on HMRC. At last Hartnett's deal with Goldman Sachs is being looked at and it is estimated that there is £25billion in overdue taxes. Also that HMRC are going after the small guys and leaving the ones who can afford expensive tax advisors and lawyers alone. One law for the rich?

Visit from Doc. He's working on the new platform over Xmas. We took a bin full of swarf down to Gissing and Lonsdales to dump it in the scrap skip. They thought we were fly-tippers!

Belle, I made an enquiry yesterdat after realising my bank account had £1000 more in than expected. Rang Sylvia at Harrogate and my cheque, posted on the 13th, didn't arrive 'til the 19th due to Xmas mail. Anyway, it's there now and all is on track for January 11th! Can't wait!

Pendle have been power washing around the Cenotaph, so now it looks like there was a beach there as quite a bit of sand seems to have washed up from under the flags.
Seems there's a manufacturer in Kelbrook who provides stuff for washing flags, so why don't Pendle use that instead of making another job (and cost) for someone else?

Tiz, twas me but 20million frames/sec?
This was what grabbed me yesterday. Full of good grub and surrounded by women. Susan and Katie provided the family and Eleanor (friend of Katie) was pleased to sit next to me. Things could be worse! Had a nip of Sloe Gin but otherwise very abstemious.

An interesting claim on the radio that online retailers automatically adjust the price of each item according to where you live, so that you would pay more if you live in an affluent area. I assume they could do it if you had registered and already given them your details because then they would have your street address logged against your computer's unique IP number. But if you hadn't registered then they wouldn't know where you lived. Unless....
...what if Google knew where you lived? I wonder if Google has a way of collecting street addresses against IP numbers? Then if, say, you went to an Amazon page to view an item Google could make sure (for a small fee from Amazon) that you were shown the price appropriate for your address. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Google was able to collect this sort of data either directly or via sharing among itself and its big retail customers. After all, it sells them advertising and knows it will get more for advertising that is targeted geographically. Does anyone know more about this?

There shouldnt be much point in online retailing adjusting price given ( insurance aside ) , as one can normally go to a competing website to get alternate prices.
Google have been running ads in Metro Newspaper and on London Underground posters and tube cards detailing some of there tracking practices , and yes the first bit of your IP address is linked to your ISP which has a rough geographic bit to it ( mine thinks I am based in an actual location between 500 yards of reality to 12 miles out , I think it is getting closer as BT put in more localised switching equipment.

Earthquakes in New Zealand again today , about a year after last load. Is the earth's crust more thin out there and affected by the closeness to the Sun at this time of year ( actually its further away due to elipitical orbit , but angle of earths inclination brings it a little close as a bit of compensation )
