Hi to Everyone,
I e-mailed Stanley and he was kind enough to point me in this direction. I am looking for any information on the Wilkinson family. This all started when a cousin gave my sister a card recording the burial of a Rycroft Wilkinson of Blera Side in August 1867. This card was in the possession of my grandmother who died in 1949. ( Grandfather died in 1947 ).
Well, to cut a long story short ( I know history is a long story !!! ) I have obtained the marriage certificate of a Joseph Wilkinson of Broach House who married Caroline Harrison of Noyna Hall on the 24th december 1837. On the marriage certificate it names Rycroft Wilkinson as Joseph's father, and a Joseph Harrison as Caroline's father. Under occupation Joseph and Caroline are Weavers (Rycroft was a Weaver and Joseph Harrison a Rougher ?). Following this through in 1839 Joseph and Caroline had a son named Rycroft, born 6th July 1839 at this time they are living in Moss Houses ??. It is this Rycroft who I believe is on the memorial card., and who I believe is my Great Grandfather.
I have requested my grandfather's birth certificate from the CRO to see if Rycroft is named as his father. Any information on Broach Houses , Noyna or Moss Houses would be very much appreciated. I thank you for reading this, great site for information.
Yours sincerely
Frank Wilkinson
ps Currently we live in Aberdeen so we can't come down to Foulridge/Colne until March time, to investigate further.

Something which has long puzzled me and I still haven't quite got to the bottom of it is there must be a connection to the WIlkinsons who farmed at Crosshills. A number of my Wilkinsons went to Crosshills when they were giving birth out of wedlock.
I do remember my family tellling me we were related to Wilkinsons who farmed at Snaygill, but I can't remember how - probably because I wasn't in the least bit interested.

Hi Anni,
I know we have some connection with Crosshills, but exactly what I don't know yet !!!!!!!!!!! Anni what's your surname ?? sorry if that is to forward of a question? don't answer if you don't want and I would not be offended in the least.
Do you know I was working on my wifes family who hail from Somerset one of them was in the workhouse for not supporting a child born out of wedlock. It's a queer old world !!!! Her Great Grandfather was married 3 times, and finally ended up living over the brush with someone from Ireland. Good old days the 1880s eh.

Hi Moh,
Wells in Somerset is the district, I can't quite work out the place, poor writing on the certificate I have for 1860. It's my wifes maternal side. On the parternal side it's Broadwinsor in Dorset the district being Beaminster. I think it was once in Somerset !!!!. They all seem to have moved to South Wales for the mining industry around 1860, and stayed. My Sister in Law is always on about the Welsh. I now take great delight in telling her she comes from England.
Family names are Holt/Parsons/Appleby

Hi All
Back on the Wilkinson/Kenyon trail got the wrong cert for Henry Kenyon born 1841 Balderstone, instead of Whalley. Possible another one of three so I bet I get to £21 before I get him !!!!!!!!!!
