Hi to all
I would be interested in any info on the Waterworth/Starkie families from Barnoldswick, in particular, JOHN T WATERWORTH b 1860 who married NANCY STARKIE b 1860 in Barnoldswick. Nancy's parents were HENRY STARKIE and NANCY HARTLEY, they were married 1840 Barnoldswick. I would love to know who JOHN's parents were then I could hopefully tie them in with my line of Waterworths from Barnoldswick.

1861 census living in the cottage adjoining the Engine Inn. It doesn't give the relationship between John and the Knowles family
Cannot find him for certain in 1871, but I think I have found his birth--would be worth sending for.

In 1861 census Jane is head and a widow, all but John T are her unmarried children. Now this is interesting because on the previous page, living three doors away, again at a cottage adjoining Engine Inn is Robinson Waterworth head aged 28yrs Mary Waterworth wife aged 27yrs William Waterworth son aged 3yrs Joseph Waterworth son aged 4months I wonder if Mary was a daughter of Jane Knowles---I will see if I can find a marriage.

Nope, sorry. There is a marriage of Robinson Waterworth 1855 to either a Mary Holgate or Mary Ann Bradley Leach.

I've found the same Knowles family in the 1871 Census. Here is has John T Waterworth down as John Thomas Knowles. It states Grandson (of Jane Knowles). So if he was born a Waterworth then we need to find a marriage between a Waterworth & Knowles.

Pauline, welcome! I hope you find what you're looking for. There are some brilliant ladies on here when it comes to tracking down obscure family links.

The famous Starkie family of Lancashire had a place at Huntroyd near Whalley. Don't know whether the place is still there.

Hello Stanley
Thanks for the welcome!!! I have much info on my own Starkie branch from Barnoldswick and some not very nice goings on!!! My great grandfather (Christopher Starkie) was the son of Henry and Nancy Starkie. Christopher had a son by his housekeeper (Margaret Jackson)... the reult of this union was my grandfather (Henry). At the same time that my grandfather (Henry) was born, Christopher's wife (Annie Lockley) had a daughter Annie Starkie. Annie Lockley (Starkie) went back to Lancaster (where she was born) to give birth to Annie. Yoing Annie Starkie ended up in Burnley where she bore a number of children by Cornelius Keller. They were not married. I cannot find out what happened to Annie lockley (Christopher''s wife) Born between 1858 and 1861). She does not seem to have either been born or died!!!! The marriage cert states that she was born in Lancaster and her father's name is Francis Lockley. Two years of searching have revealed no results.
Does anybody know??? Cheers Pauline
P.S. This Starkie branch ended up in Burnley where I was born and where I taught at St. Theodores with Roger Frost. My late mum worked with Roger's dad in the educational stationery dept of Burnley Borough Council.
