Sue, at some time you've accidentally hit the button that asks for the mail. I don't know how to stop it, PM Doc. If you were at Hollingworth Lake around 3pm you passed my mate Jenny Greenwood because she was there as well instead of being at home for my Xmas telephone call!

By the way, bitter cold, no breeze to speak of and glass still rising slowly. 29.6". They are giving snow, rain and a thaw for Tomorrow and admitted they haven't the faintest idea what comes after that!

It was lovely and sunny, but it has clouded over now.

This morning at about 8.00 it was  -17 degrees Celsius and we're expecting  -11 tonight. We're a few miles from Yeovilton Air Station and it looks like  -17 is the lowest they've had on record (about 50 years). It rose to around  -5 at midday but we've been `frozen in' - the lane is like a skating rink and we can't drive or walk on it, so stuck in all day. Christmas Day postponed until tomorrow when (we hope) it will be a bit better! Strange weather for sunny south Somerset!

Glass steady on 29.6. Guess what, it's cold. Yet another hard frost.

Tiz, staying in if you can is best decision. Don't take any risks! Looks as though we are going to get at least a short thaw over the next couple of days.

Good Luck to you all.  Hope you all have everything you need.

Marilyn and Dave are spending a few days in the middle of nowhere.
She found she had one bar of reception on her mobile and messaged me, that was a good 24hrs ago.  I'm sure they are fine.  :)

All thru the fields and meadows gay  ....  Enjoy

Right, now it's our turn.  40 mph winds, 12 plus inches of snow, blizzard conditions predicted for the overnight.  We are NOT amused...

Popped me head out with Jack and first change that struck me was that we have a proper wind from the SW. Warmer and a lot of snow has quietly vanished in the night. Glass has made it's biggest move for a fortnight, dropped bac 1/2" and still falling. I listened to the shipping forecast and I've seldom heard such a uniform weather picture, the whole of the Isles has a strong SW air flow, up to force 9 in St George's Channel. The big Atlantic low has arrived and the forecast is for snow tonight but I can't see us having it cold enough for it to stay for long. It all depends now on how long the low pressure system survives. Not a day to do anything much outside but paradoxically nice to see a change!

Listening to the forecast it looks as though we will have a day of slow thaw and then possibly heavy snow tonight but turning to rain. With a bit of luck we could have clear streets in Barlick later today and if this wind keeps up doubtful whether the fresh fall will stay long. Here's hoping!
