Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.
As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.
He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!
[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs. His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history.... he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault. He had too bad a start.....]

Alright, it's another boring pic of Jack. This was last night as I was going to bed, he was hard and fast asleep. A secure dog I reckon, not bad considering he was beaten up for 18 months......

I've noticed lately that the forums list sometimes flags up a response but when you open it there isn't one there. This happened this morning with this post, the list said that Ringo had responded but nowt there......

I've noticed that if I edit one of my posts it flags up as a new one, perhaps Ringo has amended an earlier posting in this thread.....

I'm beginning to wonder how much time Jack spends on his back like this. He slept like this last night. he's doing well, still improving and a w3onderful example of how a dog can recover from a bad start (18 months of running feral and being kicked to bits) if given a chance. I must have the feeding about right, it's just about impossible to tire him out. I have a measure of his fitness in that I throw frisbee downhill for him on Letcliffe and I reckon that 10 throws is about a mile of running. I try to get to the point where I can roll the frisbee over the bottom road before he gets it but for the last ten days haven't managed it no matter how hard I try. One thing is certain, five miles of walking for me and of course more for Jack does wonders for fitness. A good mate and as far as I can tell, not a bad bone in his body.

You're right Gloria but he had it in him from the start and I am pretty good with dogs. Joe, the Lurcher I had before Jack had to go back to the kennels, I tried to get to him for five months but got nowhere, he wouldn't come to me at all. That's the key to rescuing a dog, if you can get them to the stage where they would rather be near you than anywhere else you have cracked it. Being with him 24X7 is a great advantage. As I write he is laid right next to me......

You and Joe weren't meant to be ... you and Jack obviously were He was looking good this weekend at the park (even though he was obviously wearing his lurcher cloth ears once or twice - seems to be a trait of the type)!

No dog in the world will take notice if he has sex on his mind. Jack had evidently fallen in love with the black greyhound even though he was another dog. I was only whistling to let him know where I was, I knew he'd never come. If you notice he didn't give up until the other dog was in the van!

Yes I noticed he was trying his luck, although fortunately the black lurcher didn't seem to mind the attention
I must admit I am quite glad that we don't have to deal with sex drive as well as everything else while Connor's undergoing rehab - that would just be too much, heh! Luckily he doesn't even try it on with the ladies, although he is a slave to their moods.

Jack slipped up yesterday. I got so engrossed with two whippets and a nad Yorkie up the park yesterday that I left my crook on the park bench and he never told me. Alright, I;m losing my marbles. Luckily one of the posties found it and is going to deliver it later today..... lucky it was an honest man that found it. I hadn't even noticed it was missing 'til he rang......
