Belle, when I right click on the picture in your post and then click Properties it tells me your picture is 300 pixels wide by 218 pixels tall and its size is 38 KB. That's quite small - a typical computer screen is about 1200-1400 pixels wide. And 38 KB is a tiny amount of memory - you can't save much detail in so small an amount of memory.
If you are scanning the picture, does your scanner allow you to set a desired image size in pixels? If so, try 1000 pixels width (the height should increase automatically to keep the proportions the same). If you can't set pixels, scan at 300 dpi then have a look at the resulting picture in your image software and see what pixel width it is (look under Image Properties or something similar).
If you then decide 1000 pixels is too big you can always re-size the picture smaller. But you can't re-size a small picture to make it bigger without getting blurring of detail.

I'm don't know what went on either Belle, so sorry if I confused you. The trouble is that a picture can be displayed in the OG post at its original size or with a modified size. Only the person posting it (or a moderator) can tell which it is.
If you made a 1000-pixel width picture perhaps it was just too big for the OG forum layout (that's when the forum gets too wide and we all have to scroll sideways). I see Stanley has it displaying at 650 pixels width so he might have over-ridden the original size or re-sized your original that you sent him. There used to be a `failsafe' in the OG picture posting box which set a maximum of 500 pixels and automatically scaled down the display if the image was too big. I don't know if this still works. Don't be depressed about finding it confusing - I'm confused too!
Anyway, your picture is lovely, and so is Sue's.
EDIT: Since writing this I've seen the picture on the Home Page and clicked through to the version in the OG database. It's the same size as the one in the post above, so Stanley must have re-sized the original image to 650 pixels width and then simply posted it as is.

Very nice Belle. I think I am going to have to put mine aside until next week when his lordship is back at work....no peace in this house while he is home! (It has been a very busy week indeed.)

The original you sent me was very big. I have a general rule of thumb for sizing, if it's B&W set widest dimension at 1000 pixels, if it's colour, 650. with normal formats this means the file is then less than 1000kb which is the OG limit.
You're right about the colour, I breathed on it in case it lost contrast on the screen. Don't hesitate to ask me again. I will move mountains for anyone who is as good a cuddle as you! Ellenroad lingers on and I have a good memory.

Like that Belle, is it a watercolour wash over a pen drawing or the other way round?

I think I am going to try it in oils today although I feel rather YUK and may not want to put in the effort. Perhaps a nice wintry scene, all white!!!!!

Ah Bloky! If only it were that simple, being a person who refuses training, it is a bit of everything...pen sketch, watercolour over, pen ever that, biro in some places, and all on acrylic paper...rules were not made for me!

Ifound some white bristol board, which I had completely forgotten about I wanted to do it on white paper but alot of the paper I have in is off white rough. So my watercolour pencils may be the best choice with soft washes leaving the white bits out . I think I shall do it that way but then I could completely change my mind\!

Excellent Belle, rules are made to be broken, no training at all for me, I am sure if I went to college or on courses I would get turfed off!!
Strange thing is, before I collapsed in 2007 and spent a week on life support, I had never bothered with art, you hear these stories in the press of folk who come close to popping off, come round and find they have a new talent, perhaps there is some truth in it after all.
On a similar subject, having had three transplants over the years, you hear tales of the recipient taking on the traits of the donor, I have always tended to dismiss the claims, but my wife assures me that my last transplant resulted in a keen interest in clothes and shoes and since receiving this one last July, I have got a unhealthy interest in gossip columns which is most irritating to say the least!!!!

Flutts, I think its close to County Brook Mill betwen Salterforth and Foulridge - I think the bridge in the distance is the bridge to the "Stew Mill" itself. Nolic
