I had some spare new potaotoes so I topped the mutton stew up with them. Economy is the household Mint!

....my 'Another Salad' is not named in honour of Nolic of course...how silly....that would be a 'Nolic Salad'...and I haven't invented that yet.
What would a Nolic Salad contain I wonder?

Started and finished preparations for Xmas dinner. Got rolled Dexter sirloin out of the freezer and put it in fridge to defrost. I've been saving it for daughter Susan.

And no doubt he's listening Brad! Much planning going into the perfect hot beef butty for Susan tomorrow. I'm cosidering going the Jewish route and soaking it in brine for the day and then slow-roasting overnight in the warming oven.

I asked butcher Stewart for what he calls a 'wrap-up' this morning. It's anything they haven't sold by the end of business today that they would be happier not keeping until next week. It's a lucky dip of course, I haven't the faintest idea what there will be but he did warn me there could be half a turkey. I love surprises! (and he treats me very well of course, it does him a favour knowing he has an outlet for everything. No prob if it won't all go in freezer, I'll just put it outside in the back yard!)

Sounds interesting, must be fun unpacking it and not knowing what is in there.  Rib eye steak, chips, onion rings, garden peas and a pepper sauce tonight to begin Christmas.

I know what I'm having for tea now. Three small steak puddings and paes. Stewart has been. Two good lumps of pork, half a medium sized turkey, some mince for Jack, two big skins of sausage meat, various steaks, minted lamb cutlets etc. He treated me well and we have a full freezer again, turkey in the fridge because that will get cooked slowly on Boxing day so I have the beef and the turkey to cut at. We shall not starve! I shall eat like a king.

So I wanted some decent cheese for Christmas Day.  American cheddar has the consistancy of soap, as a rule, and never tastes quite right.  I went down to the local gourmet shop looking for a bit of Wensleydale or Red Leicester.  All they had was some Wensleydale that had been mucked up with cranberries (yuck).  OK, across town to the specialty cheese shop.  Yay!  They had Wensleydale, but what a price.  $18.75 US a pound, just over 12 quid a pound.  But it's Christmas, so what the heck, I will have real mince tarts, Cadbury's chocolate biscuits, and some decent cheese for tea.
