Because of the grim weather, I have been unable to experiment outside with my shiny new camera, so I have resorted to indoor efforts, using flash and focus................

That looks like a JS3 to me. Those were the tanks we were worried about in Berlin nearly sixty years ago.

Same thought occurred to me and my mind went back to all the scrap that has been dumped in the sea during wars in my lifetime. I don't suppose a few tanks will make a lot of difference.

Of course your'e right Stanley. I always thing of coral reefs as belonging to clean seas and oceans, a. la Hans & Lottie Hass diving grounds. The sheer tonnage of stuff that was sunk in the Atlantic convoys during WWII would be a scrapmans dream if it could be recovered. Then you have an entire Navy at Scapa Flow. There will be quite a bit around all the Pacific Islands as well I suppose. When you think about it, we have been poluting the seas and oceans as long as we have been sailing on them. No lessons ever learned though, the last 50 years in space has left literally millions of individual bits of space debris orbiting the planet and a trail of crap (literally) between the earth and the moon. NORAD spends billions in US defence budget tracking all the space junk in case any of the big bits make a re-entry. Anyway, at least the tank will look pretty in a few years, might stop a bit of erosion too>

Didn't one of the aircraft carriers push all its outdated planes into the sea off Australia before returning to UK at the end of WWII?

There's the famous footage of the helicopters being pushed overboard during the US scuttle from Saigon and always remember The Beaufort Dyke off Stranraer and the ship full of explosives still sat in the Thames Estuary. Have a look at this:

A few tanks off Thailand shrinks into insignificance.

This image of the Cross Keys that Gus posted is indeed the one at East Marton. I made a comment on the image page that it looks nothing like this now. I obviously was not looking closely enough.
This view is of the front left hand side of the building, the doorway that you can see is no longer used and the main entrance has had an entrance porch added which is what threw me in the first place.
If an admin can delete my comment on the picture itself that would be fine.

A local Barlick football team from the 1948/9 years, as you can see the team are M.S.F.C. I suppose this could be a local church or works side. They have a very impressive record of having played 18 games and won 18, scoring 143 goals along the way, does anyone have any recolection of these gentlemen, or perhaps recognise anyone .
Bills Group Cattrick Camp 1931, could this be Territorials
Here is a wonderful series of very good quality photos taken during various events on Jepp hill and Outside the cross keys pub in Barlick.
This is the last of the Jepp hill lot.I have quite a few more old ones to go on the site, Some of which may set a few posers among locals, watch this space.

I took this photo last week, looking up Colne road, from Westgate. The gable end house with the car parked out side is John street. The Old photo taken around 1900 era shows very much the same area, without the buildings on the left, the lamp post would be the junction of Westgate and the rocky road to cavendish/ Queen street...
