Looks like I'm an expert then. Can't quite work out how I'm 'mistaken in both cases'. I got the boundary right; and I got the fact that Earby and Barlick are both in Yorkshire right. OK, so I used the modern term 'North Yorkshire' rather than the traditional West Riding as it was when I were a lad. Pendle is still a hill I believe. I do admit to being totally out of touch in general.

Just the fact that you had Barlick and Eaby in North Yorkshire, which did not exist until the Boundary Commission changes last time in 74. Just the way it was worded Cloggy. May not matter anyway as they are having another go at reorganisation. Who knows before long we may be a part of Burnley, Blackburn or the Ribble Valley. I guess it all depends on who wins the argument of who needs the most votes in the present co-alition. We may even end up back where we started with Skipton! I think Pendle Constituency is one of the ones under review.
Whatever happens Pendle will still be a Lanacshire hill, the original borders will remain on the staute books and Barlick will still be in Yorkshire.

Sorry to go all morbid gents, but I saw a great 'epitaph' on a plaque up on winter hill. The plaque is attached to the building at the base of the Arquiva transmitter mast, it's there to commemorate those who lost their lives in the plane crash in the 50's (I think it was the 50's). The last line of the plaque is what I found most moving - 'SOMEWHERE AROUND THE CORNER, ALL IS WELL' - and isn't that so true!

Just to complicate the boundary question a bit more, The basic fact that the authorities eventually acceded to was that the ancient shire boundaries couldn't be altered. They are historical entities. So West Riding and North Yorkshire doesn't come into the question of the old shire boundary as they were modern administrative creations.

I can't honestly say I remember the Winter Hill air crash, but I do remember the Manchester United Munich one. The link to memorial piece on Winter Hill is fascinating reading.

Does the moving of Craven, Coates and Earby into Ribble valley, and Nelson et al going into Burnley north mean that we can consign Pendle Borough to the dustbin of history?
