As there are a number of artists among our midst, I thought I would start a topic for watercolour painting.

The Misty Tree is very impressive Tom and would grace any art exhibition that I've seen. I especially like the mood and atmosphere of the mist that you have created
The other one over Calf Hall needs a bit of artistic licence. Whilst you've done an accurate representation of the shape of the tree's they look unnatural. Try using an almost dry flat brush that you splay out by tapping it hard on the pallet tip down before and after putting paint on. Your small branches and leaves should separate more. I'd leave the telegraph pole out - remember you are painting a scene not reproducing a photograph. The sky's good and again your fence poles are excellent. Nice one Tom. Nolic

Nice to see the Guinness hasn't diluted the paints Tom. I agree with everything Comrade Nolic Thegn has said but I couldn't have been as detailed in my assessment.

Thanks Nolic, the misty tree picture didnt look right at all until i made it misty...The other one, well,i have to agree with you,at first i added the fence and there was just a telegraph pole,no trees,it looked great, but when i was doing the wires from the pole i smudged,so the trees went in,then i just kept messing with them, now they look superimpossed, iam becoming a renowned fence painter, mine gets a coat of creasote every year,hehe...

Found this watercolour my Dad did at some point, it was in with the rest of his artwork that he did during the war, don't know where or when this was done but probably some time around 1942 or 43. Its a bit battered as it was just a loose leaf inside another album of drawings.

Very nice, i like the soft colours you have used and the reflections! maybe the chimney edges should be a little darker?

Tom...the first thing that struck me of the pic you did from Doc's photo was the cross like structure beneath the tree. (possibly a telegraph pole?). Anyway, it kind of gives it an Easter theme....

Tom, that's the best painting that has been posted on this site. You need to start getting serious about this. The reflections would please any water colour artist. Nolic

Its very good Tom. I am not good at reflections. I have a photo that I would love to paint but don't know where to start

Nice picture Tom, I like how you have captured the reflection in the cut, not very easy I would imagine.

cheers Sue/Pan,the reflection is just a rough mirror image with plenty of water added to distort it..
