Other Activities

Coarse fishing is available at Foulridge and Walverden Reservoirs and on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal, permits may be needed. Foulridge reservoir or Lake Burwain, as it is also known, is an excellent spot for bird-watching, both ducks and geese arrive for the winter.

An 18-hole Municipal golf course is situated at Marsden Park, Nelson. There is also a Golf Club in Colne. Horse riding is available at local stables. Canal Barges are available for hire on the Leeds and Liverpool canal.

For those keen on the slopes, there is a dry ski-slope on Pendle Hill above the village of Sabden, and for those with equestrianism at heart, Whitemoor Riding Centre offers tuition and riding facilities.

Agricultural Shows

Held in August, both Trawden and Barrowford agricultural shows bring exhibitors flocking from all corners of the country. Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, pets including rabbits, birds, guinea pigs etc, all competing for cups and trophies. Show jumping, sheep dog trials vintage vehicles and farm machinery add to the entertainment.

August Bank Holiday is an important date in Pendle's entertainment calendar. The Great Rhythm and Blues Festival bursts onto the scene.

Thousands of music fans from all over the country and the world descend on Colne for four days of music performed by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, many from America, home of the Blues.

Municipal Halls along with the Hippodrome and Little Theatres in Colne provide venues for plays and musical events throughout the year.

The list is by no means exhaustive we feel sure the adventurers amongst you will find even more ways to enjoy your visit to Pendle.

I'd liek to add Wycoller Country Park and Foulridge Canal Cruises to this list. Both are convenient for Barnoldswick and well worth a side-trip.

Lower Park Marina hire boats as well, very reasonable and a wonderful family day out. You can go to Bbarrowford and back and not bother with any locks.
